Our neighbor's friend named her baby girl Xylea, pronounced Zeel-e-uh.

I don't like it. I don't like how it looks, I think. It doesn't sound bad, it just looks odd.

What do you think?

Don't like it... sounds and looks like XE-RA the princess or another cartoon character :dead:

Nope, don't like the looks or the pronunciation. When I first saw it, I thought it was pronounced "Zy-lee-a" (as in xylophone). Uhn-uh. :disbelief

Another tortured, "krehativ" spelling. IMO should be Zelia, if it's supposed to rhyme with Celia. Looks like a heartburn medicine name to me. :wtf:

Sorry - I don't like it either. It's too bad people do this to their children! I was going to ask if there was anyone out there that likes it, but I guess there are at least 2 adults that do!

I also thought Zy-lee-uh. And yes...at first glance (before I noticed what forum it was in), I thought it was a medication

I like the pronunciation, but IMO, they picked a shitty spelling!

 I agree.

I would pronounce that name Zyla

It's... different. I don't like the spelling. That word doesn't say "Human being" to me. It says "Cough mixture". Zelia now, that's a name.

Exactly! Thank you. I couldn't think of a good way to describe how it was pronounced.

I like Zelia. I just don't think any girl's name should start with an X. Try writing it in cursive. It's hard.

Yuck. That poor kid will be changing it when she hits 18

Yeah, I like the name but not the spelling.

that is borderline child abuse! that kid will be called xylophone her entire school career.

Until I saw where this was posted I thought it was a thread about a new medication

I don't like it :disbelief

My first thought was: Now i finally have a girl name starting with X for the next trivia game...
Funny spelling. Name itself sounds nice. Not my top choice but nice.

The pronunciation and the spelling are terrible, IMO. :dead:

Honestly, I thought you were posting about a new medication on the market...just in the wrong forum

People are always going to pronounce it ZY-LEAH. Baaaaaad choice of spelling.

I'm late getting here, but I don't care for it, either. It made me think of biology class - I have vague memories somewhere along the way of learning about the xyphoid process (was that biology, or anatomy?), and that's the first thing that came to mind when I saw the name.

My thoughts exactly.

The spelling's awful and has nothing to do with how it's pronounced.

Isn't the xymoid bone one of the tiny ones in the ear?
