View Full Version : Furiously Fighting Eating!

Help! From the start, Norah has always been a finicky, high needs baby. She seems to have calmed down, but she has gotten AWFUL in the eating dept. Doesnt matter if its bottle or boob...she fights us like MAD when she eats. And she's clearly hungry....she will feverishly suck her fist and scream, not to mention its time for her to eat. But when I go to feed her, she'll suck once or twice, pull off and SCREAM! She used to just do this when she was overtired, so we'd swaddle her and she'd be fine. Now she does it every freaking feeding of the day, except when I dream feed her before I go to bed or the first feed of the morning when DH gets her out of bed to feed her before he goes to work (she's still sleeping/groggy). I thought maybe it was thrush, but I dont see any signs of it. So WTH is her problem?? When it comes time to feed her, we just cringe, because its so freaking miserable.

Any insight???

Any possibility of an EI? I only mention it because Katie was doing the same thing this afternoon, and I was wondering about an EI for her...

If it turns out not to be an EI, another alternative might be teething. Sam fought the bottle for a while because of it, even though she sucked on absolutely everything else. Apparently the pressure of the nipple hurt her gums. I know it's a bit early but it's possible. Sam's only about three weeks older than Norah and she already has two bottom teeth (and, thankfully, only plays with the bottle nipples now rather than fighting them).

Hope things get better soon!

I was going to say teething too. My girls have been doing a little of the same thing, and they are DEFINITELY teething..

I was going to suggest that she might be coming down with something too. It could be an EI, sore throat or just some kind of discomfort. My daughter did that alot as an infant and it was so frustrating. She was also a high needs baby.

Not an EI...and I highly doubt its teething. Her gums arent swollen at all, nor do I feel any bumps in there. I have been paying more attention and I think it may be gas.
