Katie is almost four months old and I'm starting to think her binky attachment is a major factor in her escalating sleep problems.

Has anyone weaned off the binky at this age? How did you do it? She needs it to go to sleep--she literally won't sleep without it...and I've tried and tried and tried!

I did just put her down for a nap and then went up ten minutes later and eased it out of her mouth...so far so good...but this is just one time.

We weaned N & E off of it by letting them use it to suck themselves to sleep and then plucking it out oh-so-slowly once they were ALMOST totally asleep....but not quite totally asleep --otherwise they'd wake up and wonder where the thing went. This way, they were somewhat aware that they no longer had it (or so I believed). We had to do that for about 2 weeks and then they stopped needing it to sleep.

I posted this in your journal but I thought I'd post it here too.

Here is what a did. It worked for Patrick and I hope it works for Princess Katie too.:sunny:

*I went cold turkey and I threw the binky in the bin, so I would not be tempted to use it to soothe him.
*I used the swing to calm him. I do not believe in CIO so this helped us both. It distracted him from his need to suck.
*I was strong with his routine. BB, book, bed and then play etc. This way he knew what to expect.
*I used calm music around the house to create a sense of 'stresslessness'.
*I burnt lavender oil in his room to calm him down and this helped him sleep a bit longer.

I hope this helps. If I can remember anything else I did I will let you know.:sadhug:
