Let's get this out of the way: it's not for me!! :)

Did anyone here try Provera to get their period going so they could TTC and have that fail? Was your next step Clomid? Something else?

Provera is a progesterone. I've taken it for 10 days for it to bring on a period (progesterone withdrawal bleeing) within a week or two of the last dose (if memory serves, it usually started five or six days after the last dose, and usually was a doozy, if it'd been a while since my last period).

Since I had a history of irregular periods, there was a time I had a standing prescription for it and was to take it if my cycle was longer than 35-40 days. We did some cycles that were not medicated and some with Clomid and one with injectible drugs. After that first cycle with injectibles, I became pregnant (but miscarried) and never had a missed period after that unless I was pregnant. Weird.

For me, the provera was about bringing on a period, not increasing fertility (though conception was the ultimate goal). After Connor and Lilly were born, I was given a prescription for Provera again, to bring on my periods even though we were not TTC, but like I said, I never had to use it.

During my early infertility evaluations, I had surgery to remove a polyp from my uterus, which probably was developed because of my irregular bleeding. My doctor told me I should never go more than three months without a period because it increased the risk for uterine polyps and cancer.

And that was probably way more information than you were hoping for.

Almost... Last Sept my dr prescribed me Provera & Clomid. I was to take the Provera for 10 days and then start the Clomid at day 5 (if I remember correctly) of my period. Needless to say I literally started my period the day after my appt with her (and it had been a good while since I'd had my period, not sure how long exactly, but I could look it up in here in Cycle buddies if needed)! Of course then 5 days later I began taking the Clomid and bam... 37 weeks later here I am!!:)

Similar to what Kelley posted --- my doctor Rx'd provera and clomid and I ended up not needing the provera because after 40 days, my period came on its own. Once I started the clomid (which I took only for 3 cycles before I became PG), my period came more "regular"...around 32-35 days.

I haven taken provera numerous times to get my period since I used to have cycles that were over 100 days long. There was one time when even the provera didn't work... the cycle before I got pregnant with Ali. I did 10 days of provera and then waited and waited and nothing. My doctor gave me a 21 day dose of estrogen, followed by a 7 day dose of provera and then I finally got my period. Once on day 5 of my cycle, I started the clomid.
