View Full Version : Chewable or small pre-natal vitamins?

My sister is TTC. She started taking pre-natals (over the counter) and the pills are pretty big for her - she's got some swallowing issues. She was cutting them in half but it's annoying and she says she's less apt to take them as a result. She was looking into finding another brand and/or chewable variety. She might just take a regular multi-vitamin and supplement the folic acid; we were trying to compare the #s in her pre-natals to regular chewable vitamins to see what was the best match. Does anyone have any other recommendations? I just took prescription vitamins, and I have no swallowing issues, so I'm of little help to her.

I've heard a lot of people say they took Flintstones chewable vitamins instead of prenatals. I take NatureMade (I think that's what it's called) prenatals, so I don't know for sure about taking Flintstones, but I've heard plenty of people say they do that. She'd probably want to check with her doctor on that though!

Hmmm.... I saw a thread on what kind of prenatal vits to take...started by Alyssa....and I had to come check it out. :giggle:

I just take the Kirkland brand of prenatal's and they don't seem to be too horsey.....
I haven't heard of any chewable ones....which doesn't mean they don't exist.

My ob perscribed me some chewable prenatals, because I have pill swallowing issues, too.

Alyssa, can she ask her OB/Gyn for a chewable prenatal? I know that when we were TTC (forever haha) I was taking a daily vitamin (that I get through our own website) and also taking a tri-iron/folic acid supplement as well. I'd taken both to my dr and he ok'd both of them. Now that I'm pregnant though I am taking a chewable prenatal, because the big ones make me gag so bad! I'm also still taking the tri-iron/folic acid because I'm anemic. And, my dr had told me before that I could continue on the daily one I was taking when TTC and that would have been fine...
You can PM me if she's interested in the brands or anything:)

She did think about the Flintstones/had read on some other baby board (gasp!) that other people did that. I also compared the contents of the boys' gummy bear ones.

That's great, though, to hear some of you got a chewable prescription. I'll let her know that so she can ask her OB. Or I'll come back to you (Alyson) to get the brand name if needed.

And I know, Shannon, I shouldn't be starting anything ever again in this forum!!!

My Dr. always said that just folic acid was enough until pregnancy was confirmed. :dunno:

I think the chewables are made by Pre-Nate or something like that. I know that when I was pregnant with #2 I got a whole slew of samples and those were in there.
