Well, as some of you know, Alex has ADHD (phew, I said it out loud). He is on meds that are really working well. Recently, there was an article out that talked out meds and undetected heart problems. I knew that was a possible problem from the med. literature (along with a zillion other things), but wasn't too worried about it. My mom mentioned to me that my Aunt and her brother, who passed away when he was an infant, both had some pretty major heart problems.
I talked to Alex's dr and she said that his heart sounds fine but if I wanted an EKG and some other test I can't remember to rule out any problems that she couldn't hear she would be happy to order the tests. I'm sure my insurance would cover it if she worded it correctly (something besides "worried mom").
Do you think it's worth putting him through the tests for my peace of mind? Of course, I'd never be able to forgive myself if something happened to him because of the meds that I could have stopped. Thoughts?

I definitely would. I remember Jack having an EKG when he was a baby for a heart murmur, not a big deal. Good luck! :hug99:

Definately do the tests.
I'm glad the medication has been helping him.

Yep, I'd have them done as well, especially with family history.

Thanks guys. I didn't want to be that "overly worried" mom who is putting her kids through unneccesary test. They found my Aunt's problem when she had surgery and they could't wake her up easily. Luckily, Alex has had surgery but came out of it with no problems.

That is my thought as well. :hug99:

I would do the test, too. Kareem has had several echo cardiograms, and they are pretty simple. He hasn't had an EKG, but I am sure it is equally non-invasive.
And sometimes being that worried mom can save your child's life. I know it saved mine!

Absolutely worth it. See reason below.
Of course, I'd never be able to forgive myself if something happened to him because of the meds that I could have stopped.

I agree - def. do the tests for the peace of mind. (And I'm glad you got this off your chest and that things are working well for Alex. :hug99: )

I'll be giving the dr. a call tomorrow. Thanks again, everyone. Yes, the meds are definitely helping him so I don't want to stop them. I can see the "real" Alex when he's on them. Such a relief, ya know?
