Overused? Hrm. This guy :wavey: I think that sometimes, these :rotflmao::toofunny: may be inappropriately used. And I dislike them, so that may play into it. :scan: If this count as a phrase, I hate it: lol (or LOL).
I have no idea about other boards.

:blush1: Sorry, I'm the lol queen :blush1: I don't even think about it, I don't think :insert lol here:

I know what Karri means - when people use LOL instead of . Am I right? That bugs me too....just use the smiley.
The other laughing ones that Karri posted bug me as well because they're just too.....loud. The  and :giggle: have some sublety around them.
gulp!

I agree with the energetic laughing guys. Only once or twice in my life have I laughed THAT hard.

LOL was the first one that came to mind. ROTFLMAO also irks me.

In general I hate computer-esque speech. I can't stand when someone says Hw r u 2day? Does it take you that much longer to type out the full phrase?
I'm not a fan of the word fugly.

I like fugly. :heee:

KWIM bugs the crap out of me. ew. I can't read it without pronouncing it. (the letters as a word, not as "know what I mean") Oh. ick.

i think i am a kwim user and abuser. and when i read it, i read it as kwim, not know-what-i-mean. which is probably why lol bugs me. i see it as lol. not  (and duh - laugh out loud. how else would you laugh?)

I agree with this. Not much really bothers me though.

I don't like DH, DD, DS. I've used DH at times but I've never used DD or DS when talking about my kids. They have names and I'm going to use them. That one really bugs me. And don't get me started on DSD and DSS

I'm with Clare - I don't like the "D" stuff. That's just not how I talk, I would never call Scott my dear husband in real life, so I feel uncomfortable with calling him that in writing as well.
I also read KWIM as Kwim, not know-what-I-mean...it took me forever to figure out what that meant.

I have to say on OUAL it bugs me too when people use DH, DS, DD etc because we all know each other and know each others kid's & husband's names so it irks me. I guess it even irks me when a new person uses it cause I think to myself, how are we ever to learn their names if you keep using DH etc. I don't have a problem with MIL and FIL because that being extended family it's not really the same thing.
I also HATE BFF!
I am a serious abuser of this one :lol2: but I use it when I want to express something I read was a little funnier than usual and I literally laughed out loud instead of thinking in my head that something was funny. I do think you can have a little laugh in your head with out verbalising it, so I see the difference between something being funny and something making me literally laugh with volume.

I don't like DH, DD, DS. I don't like those, either. And while we're on a roll, I hate BM. It took me for-freaking-ever to realize that people were talking about bridesmaid (it would be different if the site was a wedding site).

I sometimes use DH if I happen to think about it in more public threads.
BFF sounds like something an 8 yo would use. I don't get how adult women would talk that way. If you want to abbreviate, what's wrong with just BF? (I honestly don't know the answer to this, does BF stand for something else?)
I'm not a fan of bbs either.
I'm not going to comment on any overused smilies because I'm a guilty smiley-abuser.

Oh, that's right! I guess that explains it. But I still think the abbreviation inventor could have done better than BFF. :)

I think bowel movement :scan:

That's why it took me forever to realize what people were talking about! Natch, breastmilk and bowel movement didn't fit in the sentence  ("i went to lunch with my BM today..." )

And how long have I been around these boards?
