It's tax day in the US. Are yours done? Did you get a refund or do you owe?

My dad did ours a month or so ago, and we got a refund from the state and the federal. No clue if it's made it into our checking account yet, though.
For two or three years, we owed the state and got money back from the federal. We finally figured out DH's work was taking the taxes out wrong from his paycheck. They completely forgot to take out the local (county) tax. We got that straightened out and have enjoyed a nice refund ever since.

Ours went in the mail this morning - slackers that we are.
We owe $200 federal, and $83 to the state, but are due a refund of about $200 from the local municipality. So total we owe about $80.

We did ours back in Feb and got a nice chunk back, even though I freelanced and that's not taxed. We got about $125 from the state, too. I saved about half of the federal return in anticipation of our property taxes.

I did mine a few weeks ago and already have my refund. I don't plan to spend it on anything yet, it's nice to have a little set aside for peace of mind.

I got refunds for both. I filed my federal in February and got that in February. I just filed my state last week because I did it on paper as I was only getting $81 back.

We got a refund in February and it's all gone, some of it contributing to the economy of Costa Rica (see trip report) :) and the rest to the endless pile of bills.

Same here. We used some to pay on vacation in the fall, used a big chunk to stock up the pantry and freezer, and bought our rec center passes.

I just filed ours on Saturday, b/c we didn't get all of our paperwork until Friday! :complain: I was shocked to see we got a nice refund for federal and for state. We've owed the last few years, so I was expecting to owe again.

How in the world did you not get all of your paperwork until Friday? Yay for a refund at least.
ETA: I assumed when you said paperwork that you meant that you hadn't received your W2s and bank / interest statements.

We did ours back in February. We only file Federal returns because DH is military. I didn't expect a large return, but we got one. It paid for our Disney trip and then some.

Ours were done the first of February and we got nice refunds back from both federal and state. We had to pay city tax though, as Keith's employer will not take the steps necessary to do city income tax. He works in a different city that doesn't have city tax, therefore ours isn't taken out of his check. We only owed $53 though and we pay quarterly city taxes. :dead:
Our refunds are still safe and sound in the bank though. I'm proud of us for being so good. I just don't want to spend the $$ right now

We did ours the first week of March, we got a refund, not very big but enough to put some on the credit card, take a nice spring break family trip & pay for E's one day camp at the Houston space center :aok:
Even my boss got on the ball & we got it done on mid-March, I'm sure her accountant flipped out since she's had to file for an extension for many years... actually it's the first time since I've been helping her get it all together (about 8yrs or so) that she hasn't had to do an extension... wow, I bet it feels good

We owe a small fortune to the federal government.
We did get a small refund from both states - NY and Maryland...

We filed ours in the beginning of February. We got a small return. We try to make it a wash (i think its bs that if we get a federal return, we pay state income tax on it the following year. so we try not to get a fed return).
We used it to put new carpeting in our upstairs hallway and to pay off the misc. charges we made on our Mexico vacation.

Us too. DH did the filing though. I'm still in denial about how much we owe (I told him not to tell me for a few more days  )

We got a decent refund from our federal taxes in March. A little of it went toward the downpayment on Scott's new car, the rest is in savings. In Florida, we don't pay state income tax.

I filed an extension. Things are a bit crazy right now and it was a headache to coordinate getting them to Joe to sign.

is that a WI thing or across the board?

No idea. Probably a WI thing, since our state will milk you for any farkin' tax they can get.

We also filed in February. We got a huge amount back from state and federal. Almost all of it went toward paying off two large bills (yay!) and the part that's left is sitting in our savings waiting until our cruise this coming February. :)

I read that as Wii and thought "geez Alyssa is addicted already"! :lol2:
So will the next QOTD include us non-Americans or are you sticking with an all-American theme?
(I don't have any objection to you discussing your taxes but do it elsewhere -the QOTD should include everyone on the board.)

I hardly think that one question constitutes a theme. I think that more than 95% of the time, the QOTD is applicable to everyone.

I didn't say it was theme. Just reminding you that we aren't all American. My impression of the QOTD was that it was for everyone, that's all.
*Edited to say that I just re-read my original post and see that I did use the term "theme", so my apologies  I didn't mean anything by it.

I was hoping people from other countries would pipe in and talk about how they pay their taxes. I guess in my sleep-deprived state I didn't think to ask the non-US folks to please feel free to pipe in with how/when they file or what they do.

I am interested. I started a thread asking about it. while I didn't assume that everyone paid taxes on April 15, I had assumed there was a day for everyone.
