Which popular slang expression drives you nuts?

Sick! used to mean good... like "that's sick" means something along the lines of that's really cool...we were hanging out with our ringbarer from our wedding (who is now 10 1/2) and we really could of used a translator for him.

What are the popular slang expressions now? :scan: I'm clueless, I think because I don't hang out with anyone over 7 or under 30! :giggle:

Does the term "bling" count as slang? If so, that drives me nuts.

Otherwise I'm like Anne, I don't know how the young people talk these days.

I don't really like the term "bling" either.

An old one that always got to me is "gag me with a spoon." I hated that!

I hate the word "mad" used instead of "very", like, "that's mad loud", etc.

No kidding. That's me too. I have no idea what's popular slang anymore (besides bling which is really annoying!).

Preggers! :dead: followed by MILF.

Like, what do you mean? Like, I dunno.

Dang, we're such a bunch of old ladies. :giggle:

I can't stand preggers either, Karri. I know I have a bunch (because I'm crotchety like that :hehe: ), but I can't think of all of them...
- any txt abbreviations used online drive me crazy: IDK, ur, etc. (but IDK especially)
- the use of 'retarded'
- prolly/prbly

Sick-I am so tired of hearing it from my kids at school.

Unfortunately I say "like" all the time. Must be a New England thing.

Are you kidding me right now?

No, I'm not asking, that's the slang. There are a bunch of early-mid 20s at my work and they ALL use that. It's everything "right now?" and they over use sick (meaning good, so I don't know what Jillian's sick means.)

Preggers is on the top of my list too! :dead: Hate it!

I can't complain about "sick" too much, it was a term I used as a teenager and it would totally make me feel like an old biddy if I complained about it now, so I am letting that one slide.

I also have to throw in that I HATE the word "Crikey" it's not a word that is commonly used here in Australia but Steve Irwin made it synonymous with Australia and frankly it's just not used here (well of course unless you are a full hardcore ocker living out in the outback  ) so I shudder everytime I hear it.

No, that's definitely the way he used sick, I just didn't describe it well enough.

Unfortunately I say "like" all the time. Must be a New England thing.I try and try...can't get over it. :sigh:

All the text stuff drives me bonkers...and I'm only marginally exposed to it.

Oh, I thought you meant "used to mean" as "in days of old" as opposed to "he's using it to mean."

My bad. (does that irritate anyone? :giggle: )

Count me in as another who can't stand a lot of texting. One of my friends does it all the time and it drives me bonkers!

Like is actually used all over the country (I know, because I've lived all over the country) so it isn't just in New England. ;)

I also don't like preggers or preggo or any deviation from pregnant.

:hehe: whew. that was hard to type.

I cannot stand texting. Years ago, when it first started, one of DH's sisters used to text him frequently just to say hi. WTH? Is it too much to pick up the phone for 5 minutes? To me, it's used as a cop-out too much, when people don't want to REALLY talk but just want to look like they've made the effort. Drives.Me.Nuts.

I just used "My bad" in my journal today. Not a usual expression for me, it just fit.

One thing college roommate used to say drove me nuts. Everything was "wicked_______" - dinner was wicked good, the party was wicked crazy, the test was wicked hard. She was from MA. I never warmed up to that one. I think I've seen it here....hope I'm not insulting anyone....it's JMHO!

See, if you all had teenagers, you'd like the texting. It's the only way I hear from my son anymore :giggle:

Karri
April 8th, 2008, 06:02 PM
Oh - I dont mind texting. I use the full words, though. Texting is the only way to communicate w/ my husband during the day b/c chances are, he's on the phone or in a meeting.

TtownAnne

Same here, Karri - although I don't use the obnoxious abbreviations, I do use some to save on space since my texts are only allowed 160 characters - b/c instead of because, etc.

I love texting but like Karri and Anne, I use full words.

"My bad" drives me up the wall. Your bad what? Finish the bloody sentence! :gah:

I get annoyed with "geeked" and "jazzed" and I can't stand the "That's hot" expression which started around here WAY before Paris discovered it. Matt works with a couple of young guys, and everything is "Dope".

I don't hear much of it... I have to admit though I can't stop saying "chillax"... I heard it on some commercial, and sadly, it stuck.
