just asking because i just did ...

prob only because hubby is out at the ballgame ... if he were home he would likely not be happy with me doing so [he's not keen on me camping alone - but i did that many times before i met him] ...

that being said ... i feel very safe in our neighborhood ... i have pretty much felt safe wherever i have lived ... and regardless i feel that i keep aware of my surroundings ... certainly i know that anything can happen anywhere ...

as for our particular neighborhood ... all residental, not rural but no sidewalks, houses are not "pass the grey poupon" close together, not many street lights so most of the light comes from houses, little traffic [one car passed me], some wildlife [no coyotes tonite, only a little cotton tail] ...

i was gone a total of 20 mins ... felt safe, got some exercise, and burned off what i needed to before hopping in a tub to relax before bed [too much time on my hands since my little 6 y.o. buddy left] ...

Yeah, I'd go for a walk. I feel very safe as well. Actually, I'd feel safe walking nearly anywhere on the island at 10 pm.

Nope, not here. I'd probably run into either a car-jacker, burgular, an arrest or just some teens smoking pot. Yeah, have I mentioned that I want to move?? :freak3:

hmmm, I would have to say yes and no, I would stick to the streets close to home, and stay away from the ones up closer to the area where the local shops are (5 minutes walk away), because all the young bored teenagers hang out there and I just wouldn't feel overly safe going there. In saying that I have gone to the shops to do grocery shopping at 9pm and felt fine, so I wonder what the difference is

Probably not, but only because we live on a State highway and all the other direction is is fields

I probably would be safe, my neighbour across the road takes her dog for a walk late at night but I am a chicken shit.. It's too dark and sort of secluded so it creeps me out, plus we have alot of skunks and racoons in the neighbourhood..don't want to run into those guys in the dark.

Nope. Our street is pitch black and the fools down the street drive way too fast. If I lived in my SILs neighborhood I might, but not in mine.

Absolutely. I feel completely safe in my neighborhood and have actually been out running at 5am when it's been completely dark out.

I used to walk our neigborhood at night (maybe not as late as 10 -- but that's when I'm usually crawling into bed!), but haven't done so in ages. I felt perfectly safe, but I was generally walking with my large dog. I have seen some kids hanging out in driveways and whatnot, but I figured they were pretty harmless. I've also been out shortly before dawn and feel a little safer than because there always seems to be someone getting into their cars for work.

Yes, I would. This isn't the safest neighborhood in Queens, but I've lived in NYC all my life, I know where I can go & at what time. There is a 24 hour deli 2 blocks away and I have to walk past the playground and I've walked there later than 10 pm.

I would, but I live in a residential neighborhood. I'd still take the dog with me though, but he'd probably just lick anyone who tried to attack me.

I have to say no. It's not that I'm in an unsafe neighborhood, but I wouldn't call it safe either. I'm in an apartment and there some apartments complexes nearby that have had issues with robberies and burglaries, and the grocery store next door has been robbed as well. So if I was going to go for a walk at night, I would want a big dog or someone else with me.

I would feel safe as long as I didn't go down the trail through the wood lot to the next neighbourhoody area. I am in a residential area and it's unlikely there is too much activity going on at 10pm unless it's a summer weekend. :)

Yes, I would. We're on a residential street. I wouldn't walk on the main road that's near us due to the traffic and lack of sidewalks.

Yes. The only issue is the lack of sidewalks in our neighborhood. I would only worry about being hit by a car!!!! We live on a cul-de-sac in a neighborhood that's pretty "off the beaten track" so we don't get a lot of traffic but there are a few fast-driving teenagers....

I would. I remember when I was pregnant with Nikita and trying to get things going for labor, we took a looooong walk once around 11 pm and then I was shoveling our driveway at midnight  Didn't help, but we tried.

I would and used to often. Before Charlotte, I always waited until the other two were in bed and my shows were over and I would take a walk. Dan liked to play some sort of computer game at home and I wanted some time to just be so I would go for a walk. I would feel safe almost anywhere in Salem

I would. :) The town I live in is pretty safe.....not much weirdness goes on up here. You do read about stuff in the paper later though - a hit & run here , house break-in there, etc. But that's the for the whole north end of our county...not our street.

Our road is semi-rural - several houses, but they're all on acreage and we're only 3 miles from downtown. There's a minimal shoulder, no sidewalks, and no street lights. I'd just have to make sure to stand back off the road when I saw lights coming at me.
The only other thing I'd have to watch out for is wildlife - coyote, deer (vicious animals, you know... :giggle: ), black bear, raccoon, etc. I could take our dog....except that Shel and I share the same dog - lick first, ask questions later. She's got a big bark though.....

I would, but then again, I live in the sticks. We're out and about at all hours around here, as are most of our neighbors :heee:

Yep...although there are no street lights so I'd have to be pretty aware if any cars esp since my road is really windy (curvy, not breezy :awink: )

I would, and we live in probably the "worst" neighborhood in town, but I'd take my dog and my cell phone. The crime rate is really low here. I used to take the dog for walk in the morning before Travis went to work, in the dark.

Hmm...my neighborhood is safe, we have sidewalks, and it is pretty well lit.

But I am a scary person. I watch too much Cold Case Files... I wouldn't walk anywhere alone at 10pm these days.

I am not sure. My general neighborhood is pretty quiet so I would limit it to a walk in that area. DH has taken walks at that time and has run into no one. It is all residential where I live. Anywhere farther "no".

If I was in my hometown I would walk anywhere at 10PM. I use to take late night walks all the time.

I would. OUr neighborhood is pretty safe. A mile or so from here though.. and no I wouldn't!
We have sidewalks and street lights as well and it's all residential where we live, so I'd have no problem doing so.

I don't think so, we don't have high crime or anything like that in our neighborhood it would be mostly b/c I'm a scardy cat :scan:

Yes I would. We're in a residential area and there isn't much activity at night.

Yes, I'd be totally comfortable with that. Our neighborhood is extremely rural (down two blocks and to the left is a herd of cows!) and quiet and very well patrolled for such a small town so I would feel fine.

i am actually surprised that almost everyone feels safe [happy about that too] ... it's nice to know that so many people can actually not only walk in their neighborhoods ... but at that late an hour ...

Shel & Girlo ~ we have a dog [a pup actually] too ... but he was bedded down in his crate for the night ... so i wasn't gonna roust him ... he has a mean bark ... but rather than 'lick you to death' ... he is at the 'jump up and knock you down' stage ...

oh ... and hubby still doesn't know ... nor will he ever  about my late night walk ...

I could....we're in a safe and quiet neighborhood. But, I don't want the raccoons to get me, so i wouldn't:lol: Across the street from us is wooded area and I don't like it. Chicken, checkin in!

i understand on the raccoons ... prior to meeting hubby i lived in a large [273 units] condo complex in the middle of the city [but near canyons] ... while walking to a board meeting i came upon two of the BIGGEST freaking raccoons i have ever seen

since then however ... working at an office with feral cats ... i have come across enough possums [including some inside the office  ] ... that not too much freaks me out ... i think the only thing that would worry me ... honestly ... is a "dog" ...

I would, because we live in a residential neighborhood. I'd take our pug w/me (who would offer me no protection, but she is getting chubby and needs the exercise, too :giggle: ). We don't have any sidewalks, so I'd jsut make sure I wore something that the cars could see easily.

This is me. Alex walks the dog every night around 9pm but there's no way that I would do it. Me = chicken

I probably would if I needed to. I'm not a fan of being by myself at nighttime, though. But I do feel safe where I live.
