I thought about calling it Easter Weekend Posting Party, but eh.

So...whatcha up to?

Just got home from grocery shopping while DH took Caroline out to celebrate her ongoing thumb success (how long do we keep up the rewards? How do I space them out a little further?). I hate going this late, I usually go in the morning, but we waited around because my parents were coming out at a particular time and only after they were an hour and a half late did they tell me they made a stop before coming out. Well thanks, I could have gotten the grocery shopping done in THAT time!

I think tonight I'm going to put together Easter baskets - Caroline's and I do a small one for James - because we have a birthday party to go to tomorrow.

Just got the kids out of the tub and into PJs. Both are under the weather, Steve especially - he woke up with a fever. Can't wait for the day to end!! How 'bout you?

Glad I won't be home for the 'shutdown' (what would I do with myself!? lol)...

My mom and I are headed to Babiesrus!! I'm going to register for a few things and pick up a few things. Then we'll go to dinner somewhere, not sure where yet though...

We just went for a drive to look at houses and make the kids fall asleep. Fun times.

I still need to buy some stuff for Easter baskets - I mean to do that tonight but as soon as we got home I put my pjs on. I don't know if I have it in me to change and go back out. :giggle:

Karin

PJs sound so much better than going back out. Unless you can go in your jammies...

My VP let us go at 3:30 (:woo: ) and my mom was nice and said I didn't have to rush home to rescue her...so I went shopping. I was in a mood. I went to the mall where I never go, and ended up at Target. But I got some good stuff, IMO. :heee:

Let's see, what I got that I can show...

I got this in a different pattern which I can't find...I wanted this one but they didn't have my size.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51Q0Uw5fxcL._AA262_.jpg

I also got a tankini that isn't on the site - it's a halter with a white background and big Hawaai-shirt like flowers, with black bottoms w/ the same red/white flower pattern at the top. It was cute and I felt brave enough to try on suits, so I just went for it.

:yippee: for a trip to BRU! Oh, how I miss needing stuff there....:blue: Have fun!I walked my Motherhood today and felt sad that I didn't need to shop there anymore. Not said enough to get knocked up though. :awink:

I have a boatload of pregnant friends and cousins now (ok, like 10) most w/ first babies so I have lots of baby showers...so I've recently had several BRU trips with more to come. I even volunteered to shop for a group gift from 10 people for one my high school friends just so I could spend all that delicious time picking up baby items. :heee:

I was just there the other day and got other things, but COMPLETELY forgot that Steve would need new shoes for Easter. :slap:

We just got home from the kiddie service at synagogue. The kids were good but overtired.

What possessed my au pair to send Nathaniel to daycare in his brand-new Ralph Lauren button-down shirt? Especially on a day where they were planning to dye Easter eggs??? That was the shirt I bought him to wear for Easter and now I'm not sure I'll ever get the stains out enough for him to wear it again....

I was carless today (van in shop for warranty stuff) so I burned pictures to CDs and other miscellaneous crap. I was all excited for David to be home tonight, but he's being kinda a putz, so I'm making him go get ice cream :)

I didn't go back out. I'm going to have to go tomorrow, but I guess that's ok. I think it is hilarious that I started Easter basket shopping the day after Valentines day yet I will still be running out the night before Easter to get crap.

As for me, depressing really, but we are sitting around waiting for my FIL to pass away.:bawl: And my grandma broke her hip yesterday, and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, and is having hip surgery tomorrow morning. So, this weekend will be hospital's and crying.:(

We're busy this weekend. Yesterday (Good Friday) we went to a friend's house for a swim and fish and chips dinner. Alex has just taken the boys to tennis and I'm about to get ready to take Emily to a birthday party. It's at a swimming pool and the party girl's mother does not supervise (we went to the same place last year) so I am not going to leave her, I will stay. After that we will go and finish our Easter shopping then I will take her to dance class, come home to pick up the boys and take them to another pool party, then go back and pick her up from dancing and take her back to the party  Tomorrow we have lunch at Alex's aunty's house and on Monday I'm taking Emily and a couple of her friends to the Hannah Montana movie. Tuesday is still a school holiday so I think that will be a lay around the house and recover day :)

Thanks so much ladies.:hug99: Yes, it was my dad who helped us, as my FIL started going downhill right after we began the addition. He had pancreatic cancer a couple of years ago, did a little chemo and radiation and decided it was killing him faster than the cancer, so he switched to something called "Cantron", which ended up curing the cancer. Well, about a year ago, he started to have a lot of stomach problems. Turns out the radiation caused scar tissue to build up in his stomach, and caused blockage. He had that surgery to get rid of the scar tissue, and since then has had massive amounts of fluid building up in his abdomen. They take out about 20-30 quarts of fluid every week right now. He has been to 5 different hospitals and several doctors and none of them know why this fluid is building up or where it's coming from. He cannot eat and drinks very little. He weighs less than 90 pounds right now, and cannot walk or urinate on his own. He is jaundiced and can barely speak. He looks like a skeleton with skin. They did his last rights tonight, and are going to run some more tests tomorrow, including an MRI. The cat scan showed nothing. So, we wait......:mope:

It really is. This is Matt's best friend in the world. They were going to start building an airplane together next year. They had big plans and big dreams. He just got remarried 5 years ago and began his retirement 2 years ago. He's only 59 years old.:(

This is him with Layla one month before the worst of it began (7 short months ago):

:hug99: Melissa, I am sorry you are all going through this.

Well we had a huge night last night, we had old school friends over and died laughing the entire night, didn't get to bed till 5am, kids got up at 8:30am :dead: It was a great night so well worth it. On the down side, poor Lucas has broken out in an allergy rash again and I spent 2 hours at the drs today to get him looked at and it seems he maybe allergic to something in my milk (so something I am eating) it's gotten pretty severe and they have given me steroid cream to try to help it heal. He is miserable, it sucks!

Oh Melissa, I'm soo soo sorry. That is so sad and he's so young. Your family is in my thoughts!!!:hug99:

Very cute stuff Alyssa! I looked for those wedges at Target today and couldn't find them, ugh!

BRU was fun. My mom and I let Brookelyn do the 'scanning' and she had a ball with it!! I really didn't need to register for much though. My mom 'made' me register for all of the clothes that she wanted to buy him so that she could remember when she went there to actually purchase everything. I only ended up buying one thing... a wedge for under my belly when I'm sleeping! I can't wait to use it tonight though.. hoping it will help! We also ran to Motherhood where I picked up another pair of jeans and a cute brown shirt!:)

Now, I just need some new shoes:)

It's now 8pm, and I had a bit of a nap with Lucas to get over my hangover :giggle: I am feeling much more "alive" and will be watching a movie till the kids are sound asleep and then we will do the Easter Bunny thing. Won't be on tomorrow due to it being Easter Sunday here and we are off to my relo's house to do the big lunch/dinner thing that we do.

Have a great Easter everyone :hug99:

Today we are going to the IL's for easter party/birthday party. The girls are excited. The parents are excited to get the chance to hand off all of their children. That is it for today, then tonight we will get the baskets out, hide eggs, etc., for our easter tomorrow.

Melissa I'm so sorry :hug99:

I'm dreading going out today.. I went out on Thursday to get everything I needed (because friday all stores are closed) hoping to avoid going to the store today because saturday shopping on a normal weekend is crazy enough but when you add in a weekend that the store is closed for 2 day's ( fri and sun) :gah: all I need to get is 4 measly slices of proscuitto and some cheddar cheese..I HATE having to go out for so little.

Paige already coloured eggs and I added them to my braided easter egg bread that I made for the first time from scratch! :aok:

oh and again, I should be cleaning..I have a feeling my fil is going to do the obligitory pop in, in order to avoid the akwardness of us not being invited to his family dinner..I'm not bitter..nope, not at all

Last night we had a blast. We didn't come home till 1 am and the kids played so well. Sydney spent the night and now she and Alyssa are at my mom's making Easter Cookies. I ran to the store and got DH and I some sore throat stuff as we both seem to be getting something. We are going to die eggs tonight and get all showers/grooming done for tomorrow tonight  The Easter Bunny will come early and then we have to get everyone ready because not only is it Easter but Charlotte is being baptised!!!!

Alyssa, I got Jack the same shirt for Easter (Children's Place, right?).

Have a great Easter, Deb!

I got back not too long ago from TRU & Target for the boys' Easter baskets. TRU was out of the Backyardigans movie Jack wanted (sucks because they are having a buy-one-get-one 1/2-off DVD sale) and I Didn't find anything else. I got everything at Target. For Jack: The new Iron Man DVD, Iron Man figures, modeling clay, starburst jelly beans. For Patrick: Elmo's Potty Time DVD, playdoh, wooden race cars, starburst jelly beans. It seems like so little but all that was $50!

Patrick is amazing me. With no prompting, for the past 2 days, he has been peeing in the potty all by himself. Like, he doesn't even tell me he has to go, he just goes by himself, dumps the pot into the big toilet & flushes. Then he comes out to tell me! :faint:

Wow Jayne a baptism on Easter Sunday?

I thought it was a bit strange also but my minister (new ...just came in October) said it was such a sacred day that it is something she was so very happy to do. She suggested it and well..It sounded ok!

Here is our Easter Egg Hunt last night. 26 kids total. (One is missing from the picture..she arrived late)

We just got back from a trip to the dr's office. Steve's strep culture was negative, so it's viral. His fever was 101.4 this morning, which is high for him. He barely ever breaks 101. So, we're resting now, and my mom is coming over later to bake Easter Pies. It's an Italian thing that my father's mother taught her - cheese, salami, proscuitto (sp?). You serve it warm. It's delicious. I'm still up in the air about going to the family dinner tomorrow at my aunt/uncle's house. With my niece/nephew and cousin's 1 yr. old, I want to err on the side of caution, but I also don't want my kids to miss Easter. I had told Steve that if we don't go, we'll have a RE-DO of Easter next weekend with a nice dinner when Ken gets home.

LISA
March 22nd, 2008, 02:41 PM
Karin, what part of Italy? I've never heard of that dish..sounds like we're missing out :lick:

Connie that's awesome news re: Patrick and potty training! :woo:

Jayne  that's alot of kids, but so cool that you guys do that! :)

Well I trecked back out today, man traffic is BRUTAL but Cass is going to her well ex boyfriend to break up with him, he didn't want to meet in public to talk  so I told her I would drive her there instead of her taking the bus..I do feel bad for him though, it sucks to be the dumpee.. she's ok with it though, not really sad so I guess it's ok..

I really should still be cleaning ..not on here :gah:

Karin
March 22nd, 2008, 02:51 PM
Lisa, my father's mother was from Southern Italy and his family was from more northern Italy. I think my has also called it Pizza Rustica. If she has a written recipe I'll jot it down, but it might also be one of the things she makes just by memory. We tweak the recipe a bit because my mom has a wheat allergy, so we make it without a crust. It is so seriously delicious, though. :lick:

Lynn
March 22nd, 2008, 02:56 PM
Karin, those pies sound yummy. Have you ever had garbage bread? It sounds similar. :lick:

Okay - someone tell me an EASY way to peel hard boiled eggs. I'm have a devil of a time ( :hehe: ) and I'm breaking them all over the place. :gah: I tried peeling them under cold running water and I'm making quite a mess.

TtownAnne
March 22nd, 2008, 07:44 PM
If you think of a good method let me know - I was peeling eggs last night to make a potato salad recipe, and it was like those little membrane things were made out of IRON! The only thing I've found is to make sure that you crack the shell all the way around, not start the crack in one place and then try to peel it from there.

Connie1222
March 22nd, 2008, 07:54 PM
Karin & Lisa-Yep those are called pizza rustica. My mom makes them too. Can't wait til tomorrow!

Shel
March 22nd, 2008, 08:00 PM
My dad used to put a pinhole in one end, then blow and the egg shell "inflated" a little and peeled right off. I have NO idea how he did it, and he can't show anyone anymore because of his stroke. Pisses me off all the time that I never made him show me how :(

Jayne
March 22nd, 2008, 08:00 PM
I was taught to crach the egg and then roll it with my hand and it loosens the membranes and the peel comes off. I usually don't have to much trouble.

Nadine
March 22nd, 2008, 08:02 PM
Anne and Lynn - first of all, make sure you cool them right away after you are done boiling them. Throw them in cold water and exchange the water 2x. That should help a lot. And when you peel, crack them a bit and then hold them under the water. That helps as well.

Lynn
March 22nd, 2008, 08:40 PM
Thanks everyone. Luckily I only broke 2 of them badly enough that I had to ditch (okay, I ate them :lick: ) them. But I found that if I tapped the end where the air pocket is it worked a bit easier.

Another long day. My FIL is still alive, and they are just keeping him comfortable. I got to go up and see him tonight. As soon as I walked up, he whispered "Hi Millie" and smiled (He's the one that gave me my nickname). My grandma's hip surgery went well, and she will be transferred to a home for rehabilitation in 3 days. Tomorrow we're going to scarf down Easter dinner, and everyone will head to the hospital(s) except me and the kids. I've actually lost 3 pounds in the last two days because it's just me and the kids all day every day. I never realized how much Matt picked up the slack until this week!! I'm exhausted!!

Off to bed. I have to be the EB in 8 hours!!

We had a good day as well. We did our Easter egg hunt this morning with the kids. We missed church because Olivia naps during it, so we hung around in our pj's until 2:00pm when we went to my mom and dad's house. It was just my parent's, us and my paternal grandparents. My parent's do an easter egg hunt outside for the kids. They were thoroughly spoiled. Glad it's over.....
