View Full Version : Favorite child?

I'm not asking you to say who :awink:, but have you and your husband ever discussed who is your favorite child, or even if you have a favorite? Is it the same child or a different child between you?

Maybe by my very posting of this question, you can guess this has come up in our household. Joe has long had a favorite, and I've wavered my loyalties at different points in time. Not like I haven't adored each of them at all times...but it's more like one of them is at a given phase that I just like more. Does that make sense?

We've never had this discussion at all. Maybe it's different because I have a boy and a girl and they are so different. I don't know that I could say either one was a favorite.

We've never talked about it, but I've thought about it... I don't want to say I have a favorite, but there is one who I feel more in tune with most of the time.

We've had this discussion because Jim seems to favor Alex over the girls a lot simply because he's a boy and they play golf or another sport together.

I don't have one child who is my favorite all the time - there are things I would prefer to do with one child versus another. Like shopping is more enjoyable with Victoria or Lauren than with Alex but that doesn't mean I don't take him with me sometimes.

You're too funny!!

No, I can honestly say that I don't have a favourite. My sister gave Anna this book when J was born:

My children have SUCH different personalities. There are days when Nathaniel is easier and days when Jessica is easier. I can honestly say that I don't have a favorite! Tom feels a bit closer to Jessica because Nathaniel is a complete mommy's boy but I don't think he feels that she's a favorite either.

Tylor and Alyssa are so different being 6 years appart they are ate such different stages. I don't think I could have a favorite. I may talk more about Alyssa here but that is more because things pertain to her more here then Tylor at age 12.5 :dunno;

I honestly don't have a favorite - maybe b/c mine are at such different ages, that there are frustrating things and cool things about each age.

I think Scott has a favorite, he won't admit it, but he definitely seems to prefer one over the other. Not that he doesn't love the other one, but the "favorite" is much easier for him to deal with most of the time.

We've never had this discussion.

While I love them both tremendously, right now I would say Graham is my favourite only because he actually listens to me and does what I ask him to do without a lot of argument.

When Mason is listening to me, then they are both my favourite! I think that's normal. :)

Keith and I both have a favorite.

Aaron.

:awink:

Kidding. But if I think about BIL/SIL's family, Keith and I both favor his niece. I have a favorite amongst all of his nephews and nieces in each of their families.

Every day is different... Yesterday for example, Savannah was by far my favorite (while the other two were at school) because she crawled up in bed with me and said she wanted to have some cuddle time with Momma. But during the evening Ashley was the front runner for being such a big helper to me. Of course Madison crawled into bed with me this morning and wanted to read me a story.

Now family and friends are a WHOLE nother story... they each have their own favorites. Peanie is generally the favorite but I think it has a lot to do with her being so small and being the *baby*

Like most of the other posters, there are days when I prefer one to the other, but it flip flops regularly. I have (somewhat jokingly) accused DH of having a favorite at times, though, and when I feel like it's happening, I start favoring the other one to compensate.

It all depends on the day and how they are acting  But, I do feel that there is one who is my favorite, because he listens to me, but ask him in another year, or so, when he's in another phase

Absolutely. You took the words right out of my mouth fingers.

I'm embarrassed to admit it but I wish it was only some days. :sigh:

It might seem that I favor my son over my daughter due to him being my biological child but he is still cute at 5 years old where my daughter at 13 years old is not so cute. With that being said, I know I favor one over the other at certain phases, ages and even activities. But I love my children equally and wouldn't give up either for anything.

We've never discussed it but it appears to me that DH doesn't favor either one. He is combative with both of them. He works so much that he doesn't know either of his children anymore. And when he is home, he shows no interest.

I wouldn't say I have a favourite but since one is at an easier age and has a more easy going personailty than the other some days I prefer her. I often feel guilty since I instantly bonded with Christine as a newborn but it took awhile with Emma. When I feel that way I try to do more things with Emma to compensate. I am guessing when Christine gets older it will flip flop more.

I think I speak for the both of us when I say that it varies day by day, depending on the phase they are going through or their attitude that day or the moon

We've never had this conversation per say..but we have talked about DH and his parenting towards one boy vs. the other. I think it depends on the day...and I still view Austin as the baby sometimes as well. Josh is a very sweet and emotional kid though so I am always getting hugs and such from him but Austin gets his in other ways.

This is how I feel. I love both of my children but I do feel more of a connection with one and I think it's something I'm going to have to work on so that the other one does not see it.

We have 2 boys, and there are times when I think one over the other is my favourite, but that changes at least a dozen times each day (let's just say it tends not to be the one having a temper tantrum at the time! ).

I am sure DH has a favourite though. He and Connor are like oil and water... But he gets along beautifully with Eric. He would never ever admit that he has a favourite though...

I usually have a favorite at any given time, but it changes depending on my mood/their behavior/etc. Lately I've been on a Claudia kick, simply because she doesn't talk back! But I'd say that Amelia and Alexander are my favorite just as often.

I really do believe that DH has a favorite, although I doubt he'd ever admit it.
