View Full Version : Weeds, weeds, weeds
Barb March 20th, 2004, 12:13 PM I have a bunch of weeds growing in my lawn. I only noticed them in the last week since everything is now growing. I'm wondering what the best method is for getting rid of them. Mow the lawn and then put weed killer on, or kill the weeds and then cut them? If anyone has any experience or advice, I'd appreciate it! Thanks in advance. :)
SarahK March 20th, 2004, 01:02 PM It kind of depends on whether or not the weeds are blooming...if they are, then cutting them might spread the seeds around and you'll end up with more weeds.
Barb March 20th, 2004, 04:28 PM I hadn't thought of that! Yes, they are blooming so I should be careful. Thanks! :)
gardner101 March 21st, 2004, 07:57 AM It also depends on exactly what your weeds are, what type grass, soil you have & sun your yard receives and your season . The best advice I can give is to take a sample of your weed in to your local extension office. One of these 2 sites should be able to help you get in touch with your local office.

Good luck.
Barb March 22nd, 2004, 10:03 AM Kris - I already sprayed the weeds, so we'll see what happens. Thanks for those links, I've bookmarked them already. :aok:
Karri March 22nd, 2004, 02:10 PM Chris swears by the Scott's system. I think its 4 different things that you treat your lawn with, depending on the time of year. Anyway...with our first house, he did it and it was soooo weedy...full of dandelions, crab grass, creeping charlie, etc and he treated it starting in sping and by the following spring, we had no weeds.
Barb March 23rd, 2004, 08:29 AM What does creeping charlie look like? We have dandelions, something with tiny purple flowers, something with tiny white flowers and clover. I guess it's clover, the leaves look like shamrocks :dunno:
Nichole March 23rd, 2004, 11:05 AM We always called it creeping jenny. Barb, it looks kind of viney and it has white flowers (if I remember correctly - we don't have it out here, TG!).
