Kaleb has broached the subject of dating :raincloud He's not old enough, and never will be as far as I'm concerned!! Right now he's asking about group dates, going out with a girl he likes with a bunch of other friends. He'll be 15 in March
Anyhow, how old were you when you were allowed to date? Could you go on dates alone or did it have to be a with a group at first?
Thinking about this makes me want to puke, you all know that, right??

I am still not allowed to date. I think I was about 15ish when I started going on dates. Maybe 16:scratch: heck Shel that was a long time ago.

I think I was 14 when I went with a friend to the homecoming dance. I went on my first real date at 15. And it was alone. Far as I know my parents were okay with it. :dunno: I have no idea if I was allowed on dates before that just because nobody asked me before then!
Come to think of it I did go on a date or two at age 12 or 13. They were very tame, though. Just to the movies with this one guy who was my age. Still shocked my mom allowed that, but it was really more of a friend thing. He spent more time coming over to my house to play video games and I don't think I ever even kissed him. :lol2:
At Kaleb's age, I'd let him go on a group date. Just the usual lectures about behaving himself, making good choices, etc. And even the tamer date ones - open the car door for the girl, offer to pay, etc.

My little sister went on a date when she was 14 (she's 16 now). I went with her though, because they couldn't drive. It was a movie.

I started dating my high school sweetheart when I was 15. We were together for 4 years. :)
I know I went on at least one date before that, so either 15 or 14.

Not to Scare you but Dan and I were first together when he was 15..Almost 16 but he was 15.
ANYHOW..I think that group dates at 14/15 are ok. Depending on the date. Is it a school dance and McDonalds after? That would be fine..Maybe going to hang out at the mall..SUre..Even the movies with maybe three couples..Those types of things...where a parent drives them to and from and they are given spacific behave  I don't like group dates to a house..those are where you get into trouble.

Holy heck...he's that old? :faint:
Hm...I was in 7th grade. How old is that? Younger than 15. I was allowed to go to the movies and stuff like that, school dances, and parents dropped off/picked up. I didnt go on a date alone till I was a Soph in HS.

I was allowed to do movies and school dances as group dates at 13/14 and then go out alone with a guy from 15 onwards.
I am sorry to say it Shel, but he is old enough :patback:

I hear you Shel, I don't think my boys are ever gonna be old enough in my eyes :hug99:
I think I went on my first date when I was 16, I went out with a group of friends maybe at 14 but not necessarily a group date, there was a guy that I liked & he liked me but we didn't take things too seriously "like a date".
Oh yeah, there was also this guy that lived by my house that would come by and we would just sit on the front porch and talk (with all my siblings & my Mom & Dad peeking thru the window :giggle: ) but we never went anywhere other than the porch, I was around 15 then.

I think he's old enough too. :(
I went out with groups in 7th/8th grade. At that age it wasn't even so much a group date, but there would be boys that each girl had a crush on. And then in freshman/sophomore year, we still went out as a group but we were paired off then. I think I went on my first solo date sophomore year. So yeah, definitely there was a lot of group outings before that. Maybe (hopefully) Kaleb is too scared for a solo date and is expecting you to go with the group idea. :giggle:

So here's the update. His dad and I talked, and there is a group of kids who are all begging their parents to go on dates :) Thankfully, the parents at Kaleb's school all are pretty much on the same wave length. The deal is going to be that for now, parents will drop kids off at the bowling alley or where ever, and they will rotate a parent who stays behind and spies  Actually, the kids know there will be a parent there, but the parent has promised to lurk and not be involved. :giggle:
Can you believe all the kids were okay with it? So, apparently, my baby, will be going out on a date with a mysterious girl named Kelsey in a couple of weeks, along with 20 of his closest friends :)

My parents were SUPER strict and I was not allowed to date at all. I started dating at 15 though, behind my parents back. It was not easy. The first time I broguht someone home, I was almost 20!
That sounds like a good plan Shel.

Ok, what age I was allowed to do things and what age my kids will be allowed are totally different.
My mom let my boyfriend at the time move in with me at 15...and just barely 15... She also refused to believe that I *wasn't* having sex...she expected it and was ok with it. I was not (and besides that, I dated him cause his step-father was abusive and I got him out of his house!). I also had no curfew, and was allowed to go out in cars with boys who could drive at 13.
Of course, my mom got married just after turning 16, so she is just strange I guess.
I have no clue when I will let my kids date, I'm sure it will depend on the individual kid, but definitely not 13, and I'm definitely pushing the group date thing first, and I'm/dh is driving.
