The kindergarten kids are having a Thanksgiving feast in the fellowship hall at the church where I work. Apparently, one of the mom's had her 18 month old daughter in a backpack carrier, and the little girl reached out and pulled the fire alarm. And no one knew how to turn the alarm off
They ran in and told us it was a false alarm, the office manager called the fire station to tell them it was a false pull while I'm calling the alarm company to shut the alarm off. The custodian comes in and says he tried to shut it off but it wouldn't work, so he takes my cell phone and the alarm guy calls him on my cell phone to walk him through it.
I run down to check on Owen who has major sensitive ears and screams at loud noises (and has an ear infection) only to find out that they had evacuated the rest of the preschool/Parents Day Out hallway because all the kids were crying because of the loud noises so they treated it like a fire drill. As I get outside, wave to Owen who is with his class in the shelter hosue and tell the PDO director what was going on, every fire truck in town shows up. So much for letting them know about the false pull!!!
I run down the parking lot to tell the firefighters we had called dispatch, but they said they had to come anyhow, but had taken their time getting here since it was a false pull. One of the trustees was coming down the road to go home, saw the firetrucks pull in (and about had a heart attack thinking the building was on fire!) and came in to shut off the alarm. That stupid thing had been going off for almost 30 minutes. We all have headaches and ringing ears an hour later and the kids are all traumatized, although they are ALL down in the classrooms talking about getting to see firetrucks!
