Does your school require parents/guardians to have a police check if they want to go on school trips?

No - we only have to have a background check if we will be working alone with the children.

No. Only people volunteering at the school are required.

Yes, however, Kenny's only in pre-school but each parent does a "snack mom/dad" day once a month & stays for the entire morning/afternoon...thus requiring the background check. I know that at the other schools in the area if you volunteer to do lunch supervision/field trips you also need one done.

No, I went on several class trips last year and never had to get one.

Not to my knowledge. I've volunteered there before for the book fair and nothing was required that day.

Yes. Emma's teacher asked me if I planned on chaperoning tomorrow's trip, because if I was, they needed to do a CORI check on me.

Nope. And not if I was volunteering in the classroom, either.
I am wondering....so if the school does a background check and someone has a 'history'....maybe a crime they committed years and years ago....what are they going to do?

Yes to both, if you're volunteering in the classroom or chaperoning on a field trip you have to fill & sign a paper for them to do a background check.

Not to my knowledge. When I drove for Ty's field trip all they required was a copy of my driver's license and insurance. They said nothing about background checks. :dunno:

Depends on the crime, I guess. :dunno: Our school says that they don't care about minor traffic offenses and the like, but they're looking for the "biggies".

I've never heard of Victoria's school doing background checks for chaperones or classroom volunteers.

No. Not for anything. I volunteer, and the only thing they require is a TB test.

If you're chaperoning/driving for a school trip you need to have a background check. Just volunteering with the teachers in the school doesn't require it. I've had to have a background check before they'll approve me to be an Girl Scout co-leader, too...

When my nieces went to co op preschool last year both my sister and bil were both required to go and get police background checks which I had never heard of being done before, I don't think it's a bad idea though.

Yes they will do a background check if you are chaperoning a field trip or volunteering. I like that idea that way it can help safeguard my child against a predator.

The school where I work does not require any sort of background check for parents and volunteers.

No there aren't any background checks on parents for any volunteer roles. I think there should be though.
