View Full Version : Getting ready for baby
Jayne September 21st, 2007, 09:39 AM So I know that I am now less then 100 days away and some of us (DEB  ) are 12 days away but I would love to hear what you have gotten out, what you have done thus far to get ready for baby??? I am procrastinating so badly. I need to get in gear. This baby could be hear anytime in December as Alyssa came very early due to Pre-eclampsia and my bp is already climbing so I need to get prepared...
For us thus far.
We got a changing table from a dear friend (she had #4 2 years ago and is done) because Alyssa's was a changing table/hutch and we have the hutch on it with all her cherished Teddies.
We just bought a new Crib (well from a friend who was a foster mom for 9 months to a baby who was reciently placed and she has given up fostering) for 75$ it came with a brand new sealy matress also so we are set in the department. It is beautiful and converts into a daybed!
I have bought a few little outfits here and there (probably about 10) and some onse's.
So far that is it. I need so desperately to go through Alyssa's room, clean it out, paint it and re-arrange it so the baby can share her room. I need to go through all of our old bins to find baby clothes that I want to use for this little one. I need to well..do all sorts of stuff and I feel behind. Maybe seeing and hearing what some of you have done will help motivate me
milliez September 21st, 2007, 11:56 AM Well, I'm due in 19 days and your'e doing better than I am!!
What I still need to do:
*I did buy the FP Aquarium swing at a garage sale, but still need to wash the cover and see if it actually works.
*Wash the bouncer cover and put new batteries in.
*Buy batteries for the swing and bouncer.
*Pack the baby's bag.
*Pack my bag, as well as everyone else's.
*Install the carseat.
*Set up the portacrib. (I'm waiting for our room to be drywalled and painted before I do this.)
*Delete all of the pictures that are stored on my digital camera. I'v already uploaded them, and I need the room for all of the newborn pictures!!
*Oh, and you know, this whole pesky addition thing. I'd really like to have as much of that done as possible.
What I have already done:
*Washed her clothes and put them away in her drawers.
*Washed the cloth diapers. They are in a plastic bag for now.
*Filled out her baby book as much as I could.
*Painted the ceiling in the nursery and fixed the wallpaper border around the crib. Layla will stay in there for a bit longer, probably until after Christmas, but I wanted to get that done.
*Made a fitted sheet for the porta-crib. I got this at a garage sale and it has an odd sized mattress, so I had to make my own sheets. I made a flannel one, but I still need to sew the regular cotton one.
*Washed her coming home outfit and blanket.
That's all I can think of right now. I feel very unprepared, which is why I'm in no hurry for her to be here yet!!

haydee September 21st, 2007, 11:47 PM I won't be of much help - we haven't done anything yet, but then again, I'm three months behind you!
MrsPeacefrog September 22nd, 2007, 01:13 AM Well to be honest it's only been the last few weeks that I have actively done anything to prepare for this baby, I did purchase a few things here and there leading up to this point, but I really kicked myself into gear when I hit the 34 week mark knowing that I had 3 weeks at the earliest to prepare.
I have not bought a single outfit other than the coming home outfit. I have endless boys clothes and a really good amount of neutral stuff already. I decided that I didn't want to buy pink and then take them back, it would suck to have to return such pretty items, so if the baby is a girl she will have to make do with neutral clothing till we can go shopping (I am sure my mother will take care of that side of things :giggle: )
So I completed the following:
- Washed ALL neutral outfits and the coming home outfit and put it in the dresser drawers
- Set up all equipment that needed assembly. Baby bath/change table, pram, bassinette
- Purchased new infant carrier for the car
- Washed the covers to the bouncer, bassinette exterior, bassinette mattress and wiped down the surfaces to everything else with pinoclean
- Bought all my maternity sanitary napkins (7 packets) , nursing pads, nursing bras and PJ's for my hospital stay
- Bought a book, magazines, uploaded movies to my laptop, bought a new digital camera and toiletries for my hospital stay
- bought light weight muslin wraps for the baby during the hot weather, new dummies, a packet of 108 newborn nappies, baby bath and sorbelene cream.
YET TO DO
- Pack hospital bag (I am doing that tomorrow)
- Install infant carrier into car (I am doing that tomorrow too)
- Buy a baby bath thermometer
- Put a border on the nursery (but I am waiting to find out the sex before I do that)
I can't believe that other than those 4 minor things, I am READY!

Isaiah's Momma September 22nd, 2007, 08:33 PM Ugh, things were coming along nicely for me till the crib recall anonced yesterday :hopmad: Now I want a new crib (well Ive kinda wanted a new one any how, but this takes the cake) but we don't really have $$$ for one. I just listed a bunch of girls clothes for sale here and Im preaying they sell.
Any how we have:
~ bought a changing table and all the little cute baskets and stuff for in it.
~ bought a bassinette
~ bought a car seat
~ bought a swing
~ bought a bath sling for the tub
~ bought a bunch of smaller things
We are pretty much set for clothing, I just need to buy a coming home outfit.
Things we need are:
~ A crib (hopefully), crib mattress and bedding
~ A stroller, though I have no clue yet if I want to buy a single or a double, though Im leaning toward a double and a graco snug rider.
~ A few nursing things like bras
~ Diapers (Ive got one pack of newborns) and baby wash/lotion
~ New wash cloths
~ Diaper bag
MrsPeacefrog September 22nd, 2007, 11:38 PM I didn't have to worry about the nappy bag side of things etc being as I am still using one for Jacob. Reading my list I realised how little I actually needed, I thought I would need EVERYTHING as I gave away a lot of stuff after Jacob, but really, he is young enough for me to still have a lot of stuff.

Im still using one for Hannah too, but its PINK and Im having a boy. Great excuse for a new one right :)
Lyoshka September 23rd, 2007, 09:54 PM Im still using one for Hannah too, but its PINK and Im having a boy. Great excuse for a new one right :) Totally! RIGHT!!!!! Even though you weren't asking me, as a true stroller addict, I had to chime in :giggle: I shut up now.

Im actualy thinking about getting the new Graco double, I know people around here don't like Graco much though... I still have my SBS double, but I want some thing the car seat can snap into for shopping. Im going back and fourth between the sit and stand and the new graco. Hannah really likes to ride in the stroller as of now though so Im leaning more towards the graco. I could always sell it and buy a sit and stand later though....yeah thats my stroller dilema...
ETA: my mom told me she will help us to pay for a new crib:banana: (http://www.onceuponalife.com/forums/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=45#) She said in November (call it my thanksgiving gift  ) we can get it. This is the one I want, from BRU,

Lyoshka September 24th, 2007, 06:33 AM I gotcha on the strollers.. hope you can figure out what you want-you got some time! And most other strollers have the option to convert to a travel system, too...but i'm sure you know that already.. i have no experience with Gracos, so can't say anything here..
That crib is not Simplicity, is it?
marcy September 24th, 2007, 06:48 AM I'm going to look like a HUGE slacker. All I really need to buy is some more diapers (I have two packs of Newborn) and maybe a 2 pack of pacifiers. Everything else, we have - since we're not finding out the sex and already have my sister's kid's unisex stuff. And this baby is the same time as Anya so we have all the winter stuff.
I haven't washed the clothes yet b/c I don't have a place to put them - I figure in Nov I'll do that. We need to get stuff out of the attic (bouncy, swing, carseat, etc) and will set up the co-sleeper in January (it's a pain to have already set up when you have a huge belly trying to get out of the bed). The pack N play is still set up from Anya but is mainly being used as as place to put things that she doesn't need to get to.
The second bedroom (computer room now) will be the nursery. I do want to make a curtain for it to replace the basic white sheers that are in it now - it already has a shade. We're having the basement finished around Nov to put the office there and then we can put the baby's stuff in this room.
Oh, I want to get a Baby's Keepsakes box.
ETA: I want to get a "My Brest Friend" breastfeeding pillow.
 I am a slacker

Nope, it the BRU Jardine brand, I won't buy another Simplicity crib
Jessica September 24th, 2007, 09:26 AM We painted the baby's room when we moved into this house earlier this year...we just picked a neutral color. My parents bought us a crib, so we have that set up and ready. I also have a changing table/dresser that used to be mine, and my parents let me have that. We have a rocking chair that was a gift from the ILs. We bought a small bookshelf as well. We have a few onesies, sleepers, etc. And I bought our travel system when they had a sale and I had a coupon. That's it really. We still need a lot of stuff, but DH wants to wait until after my shower (I have no idea when that is). He and his family seem to think we have so much stuff already and there won't be anything at all left for people to buy for us for shower gifts.
MrsPeacefrog September 24th, 2007, 11:54 PM  Jessica, tell him to just wait till the baby is here, he will be shocked how much stuff is actually needed!!
Well here I am with still my bags unpacked and infant carrier not installed in the car! PROCRASTINATOR!!!! I have 9 days max left, I need to DO IT!
