Do you carpool/transport kids other than your own to or from school on a regular basis? How did you arrange it? Is it someone you know and are friends with, or did the school just match you up based on who lives closest?
I just got a call from someone at Caroline's school saying that she had gotten my name from the secretary and wanted to talk about carpooling. I'm a little weirded out (a) just by the fact that I don't know her, and (b) I'd be worried about the liability issues of transporting someone else's kid around!

As a Nanny I transport someone else's kid around all the time. That said we don't have car pooling here unless you just know someone. I think if I trusted that person I wouldn't have a problem with carpooling. That said though...how would you work out the car seat situation. I know in Ohio the laws are different and we don't need carseats after 40 lbs. That said Alyssa will be in one for a long long time and I will follow the 80 lb rule instead (other states have it).
I don't know how I would feel if it is someone I don't even know though :dunno:

I've only carpooled with people I've known for a while, but I will check with a friend who is a more experienced carpooler. For the most part, I think all members have to understand that they are suspending liability for the purposes of convenience.

I think I'd only carpool with someone I knew well. I'd probably tell this mom that we might want to do it later, but for now you want to keep taking her to school to make sure all is well.
If she wants to carpool, she must live close by, so that could be really nice for both you and Caroline to have a new friend around!

Paige is on a school bus but the kid up the street that goes to P's school waits for the bus at the same stop and we've had to drive her and Paige on many many occasions to school but I worry every frigging time of something happening ( accident) with this kid in my car! I myself would not feel comfortable committing to doing this on a reg basis.

We did it for a couple of years and I'm really glad not to anymore. At the time I only had a station wagon and my 3 kids took up the back seat. I felt bad about putting someone else's kid in the front so I used to put Em in the front and the other kid in the back. Happier to maim or kill my own child then someone elses  Plus there were times when we had to wait around for the other kid which annoyed me, I'm a very punctual person and hate being late. So I was very happy when that arrangement came to an end :)
