I was reading a post and got to wondering:

1) What's your companies vacation policy.. ie how many weeks after how many years of service?

2) How many weeks vacation do you currently have?

3) Does your company let you carry over unused vacation days?

At GE here, we get:

2 weeks to start
3 weeks after 5 years
4 weeks after 10 years
5 weeks after 20 years

I get 4 weeks because I've been here almost 15 years! :owow: (well, we only recently were bought out by GE, but I still get all of my service time from LNP)

We do NOT get to carry any vacation over. :rolleyes: It's USE OR LOSE!
(our old company owners used to let us carry and that was GREAT!)

2 weeks to start
3 weeks after 3 years
4 weeks after 15 years

We can carry over up to 2 weeks of vacation each year. We can choose to get paid for the rest at the end of the year so we don't really lose it.

Right now, I get 3 weeks of vacation and 2 weeks of sick time each year. We can carry up to 7 years of sick time over.

we get

2 weeks when you start
3 weeks after 5 yrs service
4 weeks after 10 yrs.

1 week sick/personal time
3 floating holidays

you can only carry over 1 week per year. they used to actually give you a check for unused time if you wanted but they put the kybosh on that a few yrs ago.

sucks.

i have 3 weeks, i've been here 9 yrs.

I have 2.5 or 3 weeks now, but that includes sick time. It's all in one bucket of PTO. We can carry over up to 5 days.

Mary gets 20 or 25 days or something like that. People she works with who have been there for 20 years or more have like 35 days. They can't carry over any of it, so what happens is people end up just taking the whole month of December off and nobody gets anything done because noone is around.

I've been here almost 5 years and I get one week each year no matter how long I've been here - at least that's what I was told when I started, they've been known to change the rules midstream so who knows if they'll give me more in the future. I don't get paid sick or personal days and we're not allowed to carry any unused days over the the next year - that is unless you are related to the boss. :rolleyes:

Ours is all PTO too.
I just checked and apparently it's changed a little (they are now doing accrual at 1.25 days per month worked), but basically it's 3 weeks to start, 4 weeks after 5 years and 5 weeks at 10 years (accrual now goes up to 1.667 days per month worked). Our company is just 20 years old this year, so I'm sure the policy will keep changing.

We can carry over up to 5 days a year, up to a max of 65 days. But, my boss let me carry over all of mine from one year to the next for my maternity leave since we don't have STD and he would rather have me working than trying to waste away my vacation days when I could use the pay later.

I've been with my company for 5 years and at my current level, here's what I get per year:

3 weeks vacation (200 hours can be carried over)
2 floater days (use or lose)
3 personal days (use or lose)
Unlimited sick leave

We've also got a flex schedule policy. As long as you work the required hours for the month, you can come and go whenever you want. We also can get comp time within the month if you work over the required hours-- keeps you from having to dip into those vacation hours!

Just checked my vacation balance- I've got 144 hours right now plus my floaters and personal time (5 days). After this baby is born, I get another 2 weeks on top of paid maternity leave to use within the first year. I've become such a vacation hoarder because on my first year here, I had to borrow 2 weeks of vacation and it took me one year to recoup it!

1)We get 5 days for the first year, then 15 days for years 2-4, and the year 5 we get 20 days. That's the most you can ever get. Those are PTO days, no separate sick days. We also get 8 days we can take up to 3 hours off that don't get charged to PTO.

2) I was forced to use my PTO for my maternity leave. :fuming: so I have 2 days for the rest of the year. I think it's horrible they made me do that.

3) We can carry over up to 3 days.

We get 2 weeks to start and 3 weeks after 5 years. Beyond that I'm not sure. We also only get 5 sick days a year, and we can't carry anything over.

During the first 3 years ~ 12 days vacation
After 3 years of service ~ 17 days vacation
After 10 years of service ~ 22 days vacation
After 15 years of service ~ 27 days vacation

Sick leave is accrued at 10 days per year

2) How many weeks vacation do you currently have?

I currently have no vacation. It seems everytime I accrue sick or vacation, either Peyton or I get sick and I have to use it up. I've been here for 3 1/2 years, though, so I accrue pretty quickly.

3) Does your company let you carry over unused vacation days?

We can carry over up to six weeks of vacation leave or if you have a minimum of 80 hours accrued you can cash out your vacation.

I had to do this too. We don't have short-term disability or paid maternity leave so if I wanted to get paid, I had to use sick or vacation time.

Our sick leave and vacation time is in hours.

We get 5 hours sick leave every two weeks. We can accrue that into perpetuity and cash out to pay for health insurance upon retirement. I currently have 350 hours of sick leave (I used quite a bit for my maternity leave).

We start out with 80 hours vacation. It grows to 120 hours after 5 years, and 160 hours after 10 years. I currently have over 160 hours of vacation. You can carry over up to 80 hours of vacation that must be used by June 30 of the next year. You can also put a certain number of hours of vacation into a "sabbatical" pot after you've been here for 10 years (I think).

We get 24 hours of personal holidays that are use or lose.

We do not get any short-term disability, so maternity leave must be unpaid or you can use your accrued vacation/sick time -- which is why women have so much less sick time accrued than men.

I can't complain about our sick leave/vacation time, but it is subject to change.

I have 3.5 weeks of vacation a year. This also includes sick time. After 4 years you get another week, after 8 another week, 12, another week. We have a very generous vacation policy at my company, it's the best I have ever had. We can carry over up to two weeks each year. My company also has maternity leave and I was paid 66% of my salary for 8 weeks. We also have the ability to take an unpaid leave of absence for two weeks each year and FMLA if that is needed.

My husband only has two weeks. He doesn't get another week until after 10 years of service. :bawl:

How many weeks we start off with is determined by either our years of service or our grade level, whichever is higher. For example, 0-4 years of service gets you 2 weeks of vacation a year, but my grade level entitles me to 3 weeks , which is what I currently have. I'd have to be promoted up two grade levels to get 4 weeks based on grade level, and I'd have to move up to an executive officer position to get 5 weeks, and I don't see that happening - I think hell will freeze over first. So, since 5-9 years of service entitles you to 3 weeks and I've already got that, it looks like my next opportunity for an increase in vacation time would come if I make it to the category of 10-14 years of service - at that time, I'd get a whopping 3 weeks and 2 days each year. :rolleyes: If I make it to 15-19 years of service, *then* I get 4 weeks. Woo hoo. 20-24 years of service gets me 4 weeks and 2 days, and 25 or more years of service gets me 5 weeks.

We can carry over up to 5 days of vacation each year, but I haven't had any to carry over since Julian was born - I use them all for sick days because our sick leave policy is so rotten. We don't get sick time as such. To have an acceptable attendance record, you can have 4 sick events (absences, but everyone knows these are what we use for sick days) for up to a total of 7 days per 12-month period (it's rolling, not even based on a calendar year). So if I were sick three times but for a total of 10 days, that would be an unacceptable attendance record for the year. Or if I had the flu and was out sick only once but for a week and a half, that would use all of my sick days for the next 12 months. And if I'd taken any sick days while I was pregnant, I would have had that many less days available for my maternity leave. Does this sound like one of the 100 most family-friendly companies to you?!

3) Does your company let you carry over unused vacation days? Yes, unfortunately we can only carry over 5 per year. Anything above that amount has to be approved by a higher-up.


*Also adding that we get 3 personal days per year, which have to be used up because they don't carry over.

Okay, my situation is different because I'm a teacher. :blush: We get 3 personal days; 2 "other" days (which most people use as personal); AND 10 sick days. That's on top of the 170 days we get off already (It really doesn't seem like that many days . . . :scratch: .

Any days we don't use get added onto our sick days for the following years. When we retire, we get paid back for up to so many "years" of time we haven't taken off. (There is a limit of what they'll pay you for but I don't know what it is.)

THAT being said, I do work extra hard for my money I make which isn't nearly what it should be; especially this year since 73.8% of the kids are hellions. :devil:

After one year, you get two weeks of vacation. After five years, you get three weeks, and after ten + years, you get four weeks. We have no sick time, and unfortunately I'm an hourly employee, so if I'm sick I have to use a vacation day if I want to get paid. The salary people, of course, can slide.

2) How many weeks vacation do you currently have?

Right now I don't have any vacation days left. Up until a month before Maya was born, I was planning on being a SAHM. So I burned them all up on stupid stuff. I'm kicking myself now, of course, because I had to go back to work after all, and it meant I had to go six months without any vacation days. I've already had to use a few unpaid days off for various things because I used up my vacation so carelessly. But at the time it was either use 'em or lose 'em, and I didn't think I'd be going back to work, so I used 'em.

I don't get more vacation days until my hire date, June 12. It will be my fourth anniversary with the company. So if I'm still here next year (God forbid), I'll have three weeks of vacation instead of just two. Two weeks of vacation never seems like enough.

3) Does your company let you carry over unused vacation days?

Nope, which is why I had to burn them up when I thought I was quitting.

In my company, the amount of vacation time depends on the grade of your position. I currently get 4 weeks of vacation, an additional 4 days of personal days, and an accrual of sick time which works out to just under one day per month (so about 10 days per year). I also get 9 paid holidays during the year. I'm very pleased with our leave time. :nod:

Currently, I have used up all of my personal days, and I have just under two weeks of vacation time left. I also have about 2 weeks of sick time on the books (I had a ton, but I used it all up during my maternity leave last year).

We have to use our personal days or we'll lose them. We can carry over up to half of our vacation time. Sick time you can accumulate as long as you want, but you only will get it paid out if you retire from the company (you'll lose it terminating from the company otherwise).

During the first 3 years ~ 18 days personal & 12 days medical (we earn monthly in hour incurments of 12 hrs personal, 8 hrs medical)
After 3 years of service ~ 21 days vacation & 10.5 days medical (we earn monthly in hour incurments of 14 hrs personal, 7 hrs medical)
After 8 years of service ~ 24 days vacation & 9 days medical (we earn monthly in hour increments of 16 hrs personal, 6 hrs medical)
After 15 years of service ~ 27 days vacation & 7.5 days medical (we earn monthly in hour increments of 18 hrs personal, 5 hrs medical)

We always get 12 paid holidays a year (sometimes an added one or two more at Christmas & New Years)

2) How many weeks vacation do you currently have?
I currently have a little over a week vacation and sick. It seems everytime I accrue sick or vacation, either Austin or I get sick and I have to use it up. Plus, maternity leave wiped me out and I had to start over. I've been here for 8 years, though, so I accrue pretty quickly.

3) Does your company let you carry over unused vacation days?
We can carry over vacation/sick leave as long as you want and you can later cash it out or apply it towards retirement.

New employee - 3 weeks plus 3 personal days and 4 weeks of sick time.
After 10 years - 4 weeks plus 3 personal days and 4 weeks of sick time.
Not sure after that

I have 3 weeks of vacation and have been with the company for 5 years (although I am being layed off this month :( )

NO....use it or lose it.

We also get 13 days of sick time each year

I think I only have about a week right now. I have been taking a day here and there and used all of it last year on Mat. leave.

Yes, we can carry over sick days up to a max of 200 hours at which time you stop accruing them if you don't get below the 200 hours.

0-3 years you earn 4 hrs per pay period, so 13 days.
3-15 years you earn 6 hrs per pay period, so 19.5 days
15+ years you earn 8 hrs per pay period, so 26 days.
I've been here just over 5 years so I'm at the 19.5 days.

We also earn 4 hrs of sick leave every pay period.

I have very little leave saved up because we use our leave for maternity leave and are allowed to use advance leave so I just got out of the hole from having Abby and now I'll be back in the hole very soon!!

3) Does your company let you carry over unused vacation days?
We are allowed to carry over 240 hours or 30 days of vacation time every year and there is no limit on the amout of sick time you can carry over, some people have thousands of hours.

I get 12 vacation days per year. No chance of any change here since it is a personal contract.
No personal days or floating holidays.
We don't even get the eve of a holiday (and with holiday I mean days equal to Sabbath, so I can't work late acc to the Jewish law because holiday starts at sundown!!)
I get close to zero paid sick leave. 1st day = 0, 2nd day = 30% 3rd day = 45% etc. max is 70% (after 4 days or so). But when am I ever sick more than 1-2 days??? I do get 6 paid sick days for kids, paid 100%.

Sucks...
