My latest issue of TIME (March 22 issue) came in the mail today and I was psyched to see "us" on the cover!! The cover story is called "The Case for Staying Home: Why More Young Moms Are Opting Out of the Rat Race." I have not had time to read the whole thing yet, but I was excited to see it and wanted to pass it along.

I saw it as I pulled it from my mailbox! Can't wait to read it!

Same here!!! I was shocked when I heard that one of my friends from HS is currently a SAHM. I had this fear I'd be all alone at my reunion this year.... but atleast there will be 2 of us! :)

Another one who would love to see it! It looks great!

I really wasn't all that impressed with it. I read the article the other day at the library. It basically states that many of the SAHMs are women with higher paying jobs, high stress jobs and many times have professional or graduate degrees. These women want to take time "out" of their lives when the children come and do have dreams of going back to work, although many of them realize that they may not be on the higher end of the totem pole anymore. Also stated was that there is more of a wish for part time work, but many times businesses are not flexible. Many of these "Generation X'ers" are children of "Boomers" that want to spend more time with family, as they may have been latchkey children themselves since both parents worked. It is no longer necessary to "prove" a woman's worth in the workplace, so many women of today are opting to take the time off of work.

There was also an interesting side article about how the cost of mortgages keeps going up, whereas the difference in salaries is not as quick to catch up.

I read it too and had kinda the same thoughts as Mandy. I was hoping for a stronger argument and for some ideas, but really, it was more descriptive than anything else.
