Have any other kids started moving away from cartoons? I was busy putting laundry in the other day, and cartoons had ended for the day but "Drake and Josh" (NickJr.) came on and Caroline got really involved with it, to the point that she now requests to watch that instead of her normal cartoon-time. Have any other kids started losing interest in cartoons for "big kid shows"?

Alyssa has been this way for a while. She loves Hannah Montana, Drake and Josh, Neds Declassified, That's so Raven, Zach and Cody, Zoe 101 I am sure there are others. I am also positive that she has moved into this catagory sooner because she has an older brother who watches some of these.

Abby has been there for about 6 months now. She loves Drake and Josh and in fact will "play" in on a regular basis going around telling everybody she is Megan "the little sister". She loves the others that Jayne mentioned as well....but D&J and Hannah Montana are her favorites.

Well, I'm happy to hear Abby is doing the same - not to discount your story Jayne, but I expected to hear it about Alyssa because of her older brother who would be in the age range of these type of shows! :) So far D&J is the only one she is interested in, I will have to look for some of the others. At least this means I don't have to watch Dora anymore!

Most of them have some pretty good story lines. OH..we also like Cory in the house. I forgot about that one
And your right. I am sure Alyssa got into them because of Tylor. She will still watch the cartoons because we have Timmy here and he watches some of them but I have been really limiting TV this summer throughout the day and so we only seem to see a lot of the "teen shows"

Not really, although they watched Drake & Josh for the first time (that I know of) at a friend's house this weekend. But I've gotten lax in letting them watch the non-Nick Jr/Noggin/PBS cartoons - Spongebob has been allowed for a few months now and some of the other Nick/Cartoon Network stuff too. I still am a little uncomfortable w/ that but I guess it's time. :dunno: The problem is the damn commercials. Aidan was out w/ my mom & sister yesterday begging for Sketchers and when asked why he said b/c that's what he sees on TV. :sigh:

I agree Anne! Be prepared though...they are good shows but much more grown up and she might surprise you from time to time. The other day Abby was acting out a show and was going on and on about MTV. I finally asked her if she knew what that was and she said "no". Certainly made me laugh. And she loves Megan...who totally has an attidtude most of the time which fits Ab well but drives me nuts at the same time.

Yes, Jack loves Drake & Josh too. We don't have cable but he watches this at my mom's house.

Yep, Jack asked for Sketchers Cali Gear this summer & I had to go online to find out what they were!

I have been trying to bypass the aforementioned shows because I don't know anything about them and have no interest in watching them. I've been trying to steer them toward Cosby Show and Little House on the Prairie because i wouldn't mind watching those again. :giggle: Full House has been a hit recently too.

I've never heard of these shows. I try to make Mason watch shows Graham can watch. He will often put the TV on YTV or Teletoon which are geared towards an older audience.
He LOVES the Harry Potter movies (who doesn't? ) and also really likes Spy Kids, Superman and Star Wars.

Ya Riley now wants to watch the older shows. She was really on a Family Ties kick for awhile. Now all the shows the others have listed.

We love watching re-runs of Full house. That show is a classic
And I guess I am lucky. Tylor nor Alyssa have ever asked for stuff just because it is on TV. :dunno: If we are out and about and they see something they have seen they say something about it but usually don't ask to buy it :dunno:

Nope - not yet. Aidan's not really shown any interest or even asked. Plus the TV isn't on at that time of the day. I am ok with that. He can go on watching the educational stuff for as long as he's interested :aok:

Say goodbye to hot, sweaty feet. Connor and Lilly have been begging for Sketchers because of that line on the commerials!
The other day, Lilly asked me if I used Lysol or Clorox to clean the potty. When I told er Lysol, she said, "Oh good, because Lysol disinfects as it cleans."
I'm in trouble.
But to answer the question -- no, we're still all about cartoons here, mostly PBS. Connor will occasionally sneak a cartoon network show, which I generally don't allow.

We have a Sketcher's outlet near our house and Caroline asked for some the other day... I asked why and she told me she saw them on TV... she also told me to buy Oxyclean b/c it gets rid of stains.
She is not interested in any of those non-cartoon shows yet, and I'm glad for that. 5 seems a little young. I expect the other 2 will watch those type of shows at younger ages b/c they have an older sibling, bu I am thrilled that she still likes the cartoons.

I've never heard of these shows.
I've never heard of them either! we don't have cable. My boys watch PBS in the morning for about 1.5 hours tops and that is it.
