Shea & Quinn were both on my list this last time around... but they were both vetoed.

I really like Bailey but DH isnt too fond.

Some of them I like, and some I don't. :)

How do you pronounce Declan? (I can't find that pronouncing site) Is it Dec-lan, or
De-clan? I kind of like it but it would depend on the pronounciation I think too. :)

Is it Dec-lan
That's how I thought it was.

I like Quinn, Brenna, and Norah.

The only one on the boy's list I like is Lennon.

In case you can't tell by Cameron and Alasdair's names, I love Scottish/Irish names!

We had both Liam and Colin on our list this time around.

Colin was our only boy name, still is.

Our top boy name was Callum which is a gaelic name.

Karri

Well two of my kids' names made it on the list
Brigid and Lennon were on our lists at one time. And I was pulling for Quincey, but decided against it b/c my cat is Quinn.

DH is just happy that Seamus isn't on the list, since Aidan and Colin are.

I very seriously considered Kiley (though here it's Kylie), Brenna and Norah for Colin. And Molly for Aidan.

Clearly, like Kate and Karri, this is where my name choices lean! :D

De-clan? I kind of like it but it would depend on the pronounciation I think too. :)I know two little boys with this name. Both pronouce it Dec-lan. Funny story: DH told me his boss' wife had a baby boy, and I asked what they named him. He said "Umm... I don't remember... it was a name that doesn't sound like a name" and I said "Declan" and he said "Yeah, that's it!"

I love so many of these boys' names and it's such a shame because our last name is soooo German (Hofknecht) that I think any name that smacks of any other ethnicity just sounds weird with it. Thus, Emily... nice, bland, doesn't scream Irish/Italian/Tahitian/whatever.

(This poor kid is half-German, half-Russian, half-Jewish... does she really need people asking if she's half-Irish as well? )

All that being said, in my next life when I marry a man with an Irish last name, my children will be named Colin, Liam, and Patrick!

My real name is Siobhan, but most people call me Bonnie... I use Siobhan professionally, and it really is a beautiful name, but no one can pronounce it, which makes it kind of a pain. My sister is Norah, but like me, she has always gone by her nickname. I love the Gaelic names, but because we have a very difficult last name, decided to give my girls easy first names :)

I LOVE the name Siobhan! I had a lab partner in college with that name and just fell in love with it. Unfortunately, our last name is a huge Americanized Swiss mouthful, so I can't use the name in good conscience. :(

I love Irish/Gaelic names in general, though. We have decided to use Gavin if this next baby is a boy (it's technically a Scottish name, I think). I also really like Liam, Declan, Aidan, Collin, Maeve, Brigid, Colleen, and Norah.

I love Brianna and Brady...as bubba no. 2 will be a BJ, we were looking at both those names... although we have now moved to two other names  (but that is another thread)

Another lover of Irish names here. If I have another boy I'd like to name him Colin or Conner.

For girls, I like Brenna and Colleen.

Our friends just had a baby girl and named her Maeve. I think it's such a pretty Irish name!

Awesome site, Alyssa! I'm definetly bookmarking that one (and I love all of those names...especially Keegan, but really can't away with that with Teagan, right? :awink: ). And I still LOVE Quinn!

One month later, Karri, I finally come back to this thread!! Her nickname is Kiki. When she was born, I was 21 months old and called her "Kiki baby" and everyone has always called her Kiki. She is really Norah Eileen.

Isn't it pronounced "Shove on"? I read Angela's Ashes and there was a Sioban in there but when I heard it on tape I was surprised by the pronunciation.

Isn't there a famous guy named Declan. It's either Elvis Costello or Elton John.

Answer: Elvis Costello (1954, real name Declan MacManus)

I also love Irish names. Although, I admit, I really stole Aiden (Aidan) off of Alyssa. We just didn't realize that it had become so popular.

DH wanted Seamus.... I ultimately had the last word on this one. I also love the name Siobhan, but am also afraid of the pronounciation difficulties.

I'm honored to have a part in your naming your little guy - too bad we both find ourselves suddenly the mom's of a kid with a popular name.

Geez, Mandy - I didn't know any other DHs liked Seamus!! I too had the last word on that...last time. If we have another boy, I don't think I'll be so lucky!

Here's a great Irish name site http://www.babynamesofireland.com/ - even gives pronounciations/meanings via a sound recording. :aok:

I found it in looking for two of my new interests:

Tadhg (Tye-g)
Tierney

There is a little girl named Mairead in my neighborhood! I had never heard of that name before but love it now!

I also love Irish names (I come from an Irish family, go figure). Our boy name is on that list, Cole. Its not very popular here, I hope it stays that way! And DH LOVES Kaitlyn (also on the list) for if we have a girl, but I think 9/10 baby girls are named Kaitlyn where we live!

Great site Alyssa! It's funny, they have Rory spelled Rori as the female version of the name...we never even considered it! That site actually has both of the girls names...AS girls names!

My sister would have been Seamus if she'd been a boy. Instead, she's Colleen. I'm Kelley, and my brothers are Brian and Adam (poor Adam is the only non-Irish name).

My DH loves all things Irish, so I read these suggestions with interest!

My daughter definitely has the Irish name--Riley Morgan. My DH really wanted an Irish name for her, so that's what we went with. Funny thing is that when we called my parents to tell them we had the baby, my dad had no idea if Riley was a boy's or girl's name--same with Morgan (he had Morgan Freeman's image in his head).
