Victoria's last day of school is next week on the 14th. Since it is Flag Day they will be walking up to the green in town for a little presentation at the flag, sing a song or two and that's it. There isn't any kind of kindergarten graduation ceremony for them. I was a bit upset because she has worked really hard this year and had to overcome some initial problems but she got through it with some extra help. I remember having one (of course that was MANY MANY years ago:whistle: ) but it would still be nice.

Is this the norm now not to have a little ceremony or did some of your grads still have one?

ETA: Jim and I will be taking Victoria out next weekend for a special "date" with her (no siblings, just her and us) to celebrate her finishing kindergarten so she will still something. I just thought it was odd that the school wasn't having one.

Nope, no ceremony at our school!

They got more of a ceremony leaving preschool.

Our K is all day long and in the same building as K-2. There is no ceremony at all. I think they do a spring concert but every class does this :dunno: We have never had a K graduation

I never had one and I'm pretty sure they don't do it here. I actually think it's a little much to do one, but that is just my opinion :dunno:

I definitely think it's nice to celebrate, as a family or even w/a group of friends, but I don't think you need the whole ceremony of it. That is what HS graduation and college are for.

I know some schools do it, especially private schools but Eliot only had a "completetion ceremony" (the teacher said they weren't even allowed to call it a "graduation"). No robes & hats, they got on stage sang 3 songs & then each teacher called their class kids & presented them with a certificate... then a little get together in each kids rooms with a few refreshments & to pick up their cubby stuff & the book they put together throughout the school year.

We have a class day on their last day, next Friday. (Somehow I must fit that in between closings on the house and moving. :disbelief )

I don't really know what to expect but they are singing songs and showing off what they've learned and done all year long.

It's a little different here b/c the kindergartens are private and so the kids are going off to different schools next year. One of the parents who has twins in the class has invited all the kids to their house after for a party too.

No kindergarten graduations here and I'm fine with that. Reading about some of the hoopla that goes on for all the "graduations" you guys have makes me glad that the craze hasn't hit here (yet!).

Harry doesn't finish kindergarten till December so I can't really say what will happen there. I can't really remember what happened when Emily finished kindergarten, so it mustn't have been very special :dunno:

I had one when I was in kindergarten. I don't remember much of it but I have pictures of me wearing a pink cap made of construction paper and I still have my certificate. I believe that they parents were invited and we had little cakes and treats.

I posed this question and when I picked up today's paper there on the front was a group of kindergarteners in their paper caps going to graduation ceremony.

I talked to Victoria's teacher today and she said their school use to do it but they did away with it over the years. She said now they do their ABC's on Parade play and their Flag Day presentation and that's it.

I never had one but I know some schools do it. Reason being, I have one of my old dance recital videos and my teacher mentioned that a particular child was "not graduating kindergarten tonight because she's on stage tonight dancing as a pink panther" (that was her class's tap dance song).

No clue if Sarah will have one. It's years away and I don't know exactly where she's going to school.

The private school that Kaleb and Jacob went to had a K grad, and the preschool at the church where I work has K graduation. They have preschool grad too, but it is not a cap and gown affair. They reserve that for kindergarten. I was surprised Kaleb didn't have 8th grade graduation. Apparently those are big now too.

I think the fact you are taking her out on a special day is ample reward for her hard work this year :aok: Enjoy that day out!

A few schools around here do it, but totally low-key; like graduation caps made out of paper plates low key. :giggle: More played as "transition from little kid to big kid".

I had an 8th grade graduation - no caps and gowns - but we did have a ceremony where we all walked across the stage, shook hand with the principal and got some sort of "diploma". My cousin is finishing 8th grade this year and she's having one too.

Deb - Jim and I decided to have that special day for her because they aren't having any kind of ceremony at the school. We are going to take her out to lunch and to Build-A-Bear so she can build her own bear. She's been asking to do it so we thought it would be a nice "graduation" present, especially since she's had to work harder than most of the kids in her class this year.

I asked Paige's teacher today if they were going to do anything and she said no :( Cass went to the same school and they did something, mind you they went a little overboard having the whole school participate but it was something.

The SK class has one in two weeks in the afternoon that the parents are invited to. I think that they will sing some songs and show off what the learned throughout the two years of kindergarden.
