I'm sure that this shouldn't go here, so feel free to move it! I thought it might get more traffic here - I wasn't sure if it would be better in Photography, or Product Recommendations.
I think need a new digital camera. Well, I might not need one, but Rory dropped mine last weekend on our cement patio, and the lens is cracked, and it doesn't turn on anymore. Maybe it could be fixed, but, well, it's 4+ years old. I'm okay with getting a new one. http://members.cox.net/lauralybarger/Emoticons/nod.gif http://members.cox.net/lauralybarger/Emoticons/lol.gif

I had a Canon, and I think I'd like to go with Canon again. I had a Powershot G2 (Thanks to Stacey, and Brad's recommendation! Hey, Stacey, what camera are you using now? ), which when it came out, was one of the better ones. It had a manual mode, I think. Obviously, I never used it.

I'd love the option of it having a manual mode again, you know, just in case. http://members.cox.net/lauralybarger/Emoticons/rolleyes.gif
Somewhat lighter would be nice, and maybe smaller.
I had 4.0 megapixels, and I'd like at least that again.
I know that there are some Canon A___ out there, and maybe I'm looking at one of those?
I've also thought about getting one of those little Canon Elph ones...

What do people here have? Do you recommend it? Tell me about it (even if it's not a Canon), and approximate price.

Thanks!

I have the Canon PowerShot S3 IS and I love it. Thanks to the recommendation from lots of women here! It is easy to use, not to big but not to small and has so many functions. It is 6.0 megapixels and 12X optical Zoom. I think it cost us just under 400$

Jayne, I was actually looking at that one! You like it, obviously? It's the 'newer' S2, right?

YES and I love it. I think Shel has the S2. I went ahead and got the S3 and I have been nothing but happy. I love the pictures it takes and how easy it is to hold. It has so many functions that even though I have had it since February I am still learning new tricks.

Jenn, a bunch of people here have the S2 IS, including me. I think it might be a little (but not much) lighter than the G2, but it's not small. We are really happy with it though.

I'm sorry about the quick death of the G2. It lasted a long time! Ours died a couple of years ago.

Stacey, I was amazed at how long it lasted! It was a great camera though.

So, the S3 is the 'new' S2. Got it. Now to see if anywhere around me has the S2 still...I've found the S3, and was surprised by how 'affordable' it was. Compared to what the G2 was, well... Mind you, that was awhile ago!

I love my S2. I actually bought it the month before the S3 came out! I would have waited for it had I known.

I have a Canon A60 (a measly 2mp :giggle: ) but my new camera I'm getting for Mother's Day is a Canon A630 (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-Digital-Camera-Optical/dp/B000HAOVC6/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-5463243-9689607?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1177973824&sr=8-1).

Lynn, that's actually the one that I'm looking at, that or the S2/S3. I'm trying to compare the two.

I have the Canon A610 and am quite happy with it. It has a lot of the same features as the S2, just not the big zoom (it's 4X optical) and IS.

ETA: Ah, now that I look at Lynn's link, I see that the A630 is pretty much the same camera as mine, just more MP. :aok:

I have an S2 and love it also. I debated between the S2 & S3. I went with the s2 just b/c I only use it for basic photo taking. I didn't really need the bigger megapixels. Anyway, I'd definitely recommend it. It gets awesome reviews by just about everyone.

Oh, I got mine at www.beachcameras.com (http://www.beachcameras.com)

:wavey: We just got the Canon SD 1000 ELPH and I really like it- It is wicked small though and I am always nervous I will drop it- but it is really easy to use and takes great photos!
