If you had to lose one of your senses, which one would you lose? Why?

I wouldn't choose to lose any of my senses http://onceuponalife.com/forums/images/smilies/crazy.gif but if I had to I guess I would go with hearing http://onceuponalife.com/forums/images/smilies/dunno.gif only because it would kill me if I couldn't smell flowers or taste chocolate or not be able to read Harry Potter http://onceuponalife.com/forums/images/smilies/eek3.gif

I think I would choose to lose smell. There are a lot of good smells out there, but there are also a lot of bad ones.

Smell. Too bad I couldn't have lost it when I had kids in diapers

I would choose to loose smell as long as it didn't effect my breathing. Anymore smells for the most part..all smells really bother me and my asthma and my breathing so they hurt me more then they help me. I would miss the smell of rain and a beautiful spring day but I could live without it. I couldn't give up hearing because of music..taste because..well I love to eat. Touch..I have to have a huge from my children..sight..To see them grow. So it would be smell!

Well said, Jayne!
Plus, if you lost the sense of touch, you'd constantly be injuring yourself. You'd get burns, cuts, step on glass and not notice, etc.

Well I think I'd have to agree with Sarah and Jayne and go with smell. However, just to be different...what about losing your hearing. Its happening to some of us already I'm sure, thanks to all the loud music we used to listen to as kids. Although losing my sense of hearing would be difficult emotionally I think it would be the easiest transition for me since I already know a great deal of sign language.

For those of you who picked smell....you realize that if you lose your sense of smell, you'll lose most of your sense of taste, as well?
I'd definately go with hearing. It wouldn't affect me at all. You can communicate just as effectively with sign and there is a huge community to support the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

I would go with hearing. My aunt lost her sense of smell when she was 19 due to a bad motorcycle accident and while it would ne nice not to smell a poopy diaper I can't imagine missing out on the smell of good food, candles, flowers etc. And I dont want my sense of taste to be altered.
With hearing... you can adjust... learn sign language, get a hearing aid, etc etc

I'd go with hearing too, because I'd cry to not be able to taste good food and drinks anymore. I would miss hearing my kids laugh, though. :(

I think I would go with touch. I would hate to not be able to hear my children talk, sing, act in a school play etc etc. I definately want to see them, I couldn't choose smell due to stuffing up my taste, and hence I love having my taste buds so that has gotta stay. Although I love to "touch" things  I guess it's the one I could do with out.

What a difficult question. I guess I would go with smell. Music is sooooo important to me. I could never choose to keep smelling/tasting my favorite things over hearing the voice of my children. Heck, I wouldn't eat so much crap if I couldn't taste it.

Yes I realize that a lot of your sense of taste is lost without smell but not all of it. And for me..Hearing would not only ruin the fact that I couldn't hear people singing or my children speaking but I too could not sing as well. A lot of singing is done by hearing. I just couldn't do it. (well..I could do anything if I had to but then again...we could all do anything if we had to!)

I think I'd have to go with smell as well. I realize that it's closely linked with taste, and that's okay. I'm more of a texture eater anyway, so losing most of that would be alright. I'd rather do the 2-for-1, than lose anything else.
If I had to round out the top 3, it would probably be hearing. I took sign language in college, so I've got a head start on that.
