Among the many forms we have to fill out to register Joe for the charter school, they have a list of questions he had to answer. It did say students entering K-2nd grade could have their parents write their answers. Here are the questions and his answers.

1. Please list THREE reasons why you would like to attend Highline Academy Charter School.

To eat lunch, play outside, and to play.

2. We expect our students to give 100% effort and require students to attend a lunch time or after school study hall if homework is not completed from the night before or if the quality of homework does not meet the teacher’s expectations. How do you feel about this?

I don’t feel very good about that because I don’t like to do homework.

3. Our school community is based on five core values REACH (responsibility, empowerment, aspiration, citizenship and honesty). Which value do you think would be most difficult for you to live consistently? Why?

Empowerment. Because.

4. Our school community considers a C (below 80%) failing. Students who fail 2 or more classes are recommended for retention. What would you do if you were recommended for retention? What class do you think you might most struggle with academically?

I don’t know. Spelling, because I don’t know how to make all of the words.

5. Share a time when you violated school rules and what you did to make it right.

I didn’t do anything like that.

6. Please list THREE things you hope to get done by the time you are 25.

I want to be a teacher. I want to go to Disneyworld. I want to be a dad.

Cute answers :)
Some of those questions are pretty elaborate for a 5 year old though :)

No kidding. I think some of them are pretty tough for 7th and 8th graders. We had to explain the questions in simpler terms for him, obviously.

I think it's great that you are actually putting down his own answers and something made up to make him look good (I'm sure others will do that).

BUT, come one! How do those questions relevant for a 5 year old and getting into a school? GEESH! THEY ARE 5!

That is ridiculous, although I am another that completely loves that you use HIS answers.

I can't believe those questions, I agree they would be tough for a highschooler, let alone a primary school child. I can't believe they would expect a 3rd grader onwards to answer it themselves!

I love his answers though! :lol2: Too cute :love1:

Of course we're going to use his answers. If they are going to ask ridiculous questions, they are going to get ridiculous answers. I really don't know what they expect.

That's pretty cute. I also like that you are using his answers. What do they think this is? A college application?

We know one of the board members and we asked her about the questions. Here's her response, which does make the intent of the quesitons a bit clearer:

"That is a new addition to the registration process this year. I have not actually seen the form yet. We decided to do a more extensive registration form for next year so we can make sure to be prepared for students coming in from other schools primarily. We felt we were under resourced for our middle school students and want to avoid that happening in the future. I'm sure it is not as relevant to kindergarteners since many have never been to school before or only very limited school experience. If the questions don't seem to apply, I would just say that."

Um..none of them apply
That was the most ridiculous questionnaire for a kindergartener. Hopefully they'll realize it when they read the kids answers.

Wow, my oldest son is in middle school and has never been asked questions past # 4 on your list.
