Pretty self explanatory. How big is it? (capacity in cu ft - ex: 22.6 cu ft)
Is it of sufficient size for all of your refrigeration needs?

Our current fridge is 20.5 cu ft, and it's ok right now but I can tell it will be a tight squeeze when our two boys hit puberty. The house we're moving to has limited space for a fridge, so we can't get anything a whole lot bigger than we have now and I'm a bit disappointed. It looks like the max we can get is 22.2 (or 22.4, I can't remember offhand) cu ft. Where will we put all of the milk?! :panic:

I had to look. Ours is 21.8. The one we had in NY was so incredibly small and we were determined to go bigger. Bigger is better. :giggle:

21.5
And it's good for our needs now but there are only three of us. I need to reconfigure the shelves since getting leftovers inside isn't easy.
Would you have room elsewhere (garage, basement, etc) for an extra fridge? Or a deepfreeze, you can freeze extra milk and defrost as needed.

it's plenty roomy for us :)

19.6 and it sucks ass. But its an old SBS and so that's why.
You know, growing up, my parents must have had this size or smaller (due to the kitchen size/setup) and they made do...and they had 2 boys and me. :dunno:
And, you never know if your boys will be milk hounds, either :) Just sayin'.
Newer fridges maximize their space so much more than older fridges. And if that isn't enough room for you, get an extra fridge w/ freezer to keep in the basement or garage :)

Karri, I think we had a smallish fridge growing up, too. And I'm sure we'll be fine with whatever we get, probably due in part to more efficient use of space in the newer ones.
I was joking about the milk (because it sounded better than fretting about space for all of the beer :giggle: no, I'm kidding about that, too. Or am I? :scan: ). What I really need in our next fridge is better veggie crisper and deli storage. I feel like those drawers are always jammed full and then I can't tell what is all in there and the stuff on the bottom gets all juicy and gross. In general, what bugs me the most is having to dig around to find stuff, you know?
I want to get a bottom mount freezer fridge so that it's easier to see what is in the fridge. Hopefully that will help.
p.s. This thread was born of pure curiosity. For reals, yo. It wasn't for pity or solutions or anything, I swear.

have you checked out those new fridges in person? they rock the hizzouze. my parents just got one and the crisper drawers are smaller and there are more of them. and there's even one in the door!

Our fridge in KY is 26 cu ft and I loved it.
I tried to do the metric conversion to find out how big our fridge here is and I came up with 9 cu ft. I'm not sure if I plugged the numbers in correctly but I do know it's awfully tiny.

Would that be a dorm fridge?

The new one we just got is 22.4. It's a bottom mount with French doors, and it's amazing how better designed it is than our old fridge! We stuffed everything we had in our old one into the new one, and it still looks bare. I'm loving it, and it's plenty big for us.

Mine too. LOVE IT!! :) I hated the SBS so much, and I love my new one. It is big enough for the 5 of us, though if I had the room, I would have gotten the bigger one because it had a really cool deli drawer.
ETA: We always have 2 gallons of milk, sometimes 3, in there and can fit more, Nichole, so you may want to check it out

We just bought a new one but have no idea how to work it out in the measurements you are talking. Ours are measured via litreage. So if you guys have any clue on that it's a 590litre fridge. It's a bottom mount LG, ME LIKEY LOTS!

I have been lusting over a 42-inch Kitchen-aid fridge but then I realized that if we got a bigger fridge, we'd end up stuffing it with stuff we don't need. We live so close to the grocery store that we can always walk across the street if we need something. So we'll probably get a 36-inch- which is probably 22 cubic feet or so. Right now we only have like, 18 cubic feet and we do fine with it since half the stuff in there can probably get tossed out.

I can't find exactly how big our fridge is. :dunno: I'm guessing, but I think it's about 25 cu. feet. :) We got one of the bigger ones that we could find (Kenmore Elite). It is a SBS, but we like it. Paul's parents have a bottom-fridge one with the french doors, and I can't stand their fridge. :shuffle: There is only one circumstance where I wish we didn't have a SBS, and that's to fit in a party tray.....which has only been about twice in the past 5 years.

Deb... ours was in liters too. I converted it here:

If that calculator works correctly, yours is 20.8 cu ft.

:aok: That did it, Cami. Thanks.
okay well therefore we have a 20.8 cubic foot fridge. It's perfect for us. It was the biggest one that would squeeze into the space we had. It happens to be a deeper fridge so we could fit it in the small space. I am loving the bottom mounted format. It's so great to not be bending down to get vege's and drinks! :aok:
I have to add though that I also have another smaller fridge in our laundry where I store extra freezed goods and drinks etc.
We also have an old coke vending machine, the old style ones from the 70's where you inserted a coin and lifted up the lid to get the drink out. It obviously has been stripped of that mechanism, but it's perfect for our parties, we can fit 4 cases of beer into the top of it. And plenty of wine in the side.
