Anyone's kids get their 6 year/1st permanent molars yet?

Aidan started complaining tonight that his mouth hurt, and it occured to me that he's probably getting new teeth. Yes, I had to look it up to confirm that is what happens. I can feel little bumps so I'm sure that is what is happening.

He was a really easy teether when he was a baby; we never knew he was getting teeth until they appeared. I'm just wondering if your kids have gotten these molars, did the teething process essentially follow their pain levels when they got their baby teeth? Or was it a lot worse?

 Wow, I didn't even know this happened! So, no, we don't have those here yet, or even any complaints about them!

Will he let you put the OraJel in his mouth? I know that worked wonders for the kids when they were babies, but I just stuck it in there. Now I bet Ty would fight me on that!

He was moaning so much I gave him ibuprofen. He drank it and immediately said, "wow, I feel better already!" :screwy: 5 mnutes later he was complaining again. :giggle:

If it keeps up, I might try the Orajel. He let me in there to feel, so I think I could apply it.

Aidan also wanted to feel my molars so he could understand what was growing in his mouth, and then we had to look up pictures of teeth. That made me laugh. :)

Wow, I had no idea that would happen. Sierra just lost 2 teeth up front to make room for the new ones. It never occurred to me that more molars might be coming.

Obviously Anna's not there yet, but I remember getting my 12 year molars. It was definitely painful at times and I would say it was uncomfortable at best.

This is why it bugs me so much when I read that babies don't experience pain while teething. Yes... I actually got a magazine with a Dr. being quoted as saying that.

I didn't realize either. Although now that you have mentioned it, I do recall knowing that little kids have fewer teeth than adults. Although now that I'm thinking further... I thought that was because of wisdom teeth. Clearly I don't know the process.

So these teeth come in behind existing molars? I think someone told me recently (or asked) if the molars that are already there are permanent. I didn't know the answer to that either.

I guess he wouldn't want a teething ring, would he?

(seriously, I hope it's not too painful and a quick process.)

What I read is that they loose a few baby teeth, and then the first permanent (aka 6 year) molars come in. Then I believe that the rest of the teeth, including the current molars, fall out and are replaced. I think then you get 12 year molars, and then 18 year molars...the latter are aka wisdom teeth.

I also read one article that suggests you get sealants on the molars as soon as they come in.

I couldn't find any great articles that really clearly explained it (including if you lose the current molars, I'm not sure on that), but here are a few: http://www.chop.edu/consumer/your_child/condition_section_index.jsp

I took the boys to the dentist the other week and he was just telling me to look out for Aiden's 6 year molars as they can appear anytime now. He is turning 5 in 7 odd weeks, but he said it's common for it to happen anywhere from 5 onwards. He also explained how it's going to take from now till he is 12/13 to lose all his teeth and the new ones to grow in, I was shocked, I don't remember being that old losing teeth and I also don't remember losing my molars, but I obviously did

You Aidan is growning so fast, losing teeth already and now the 6 year molars coming in! :woa:

Shoot, I forgot all about the idea of more molars! Dr. Sears is always a good one for tooth information; that's where I learned that the teeth fall out pretty much in the order they came in!

Tylor was 7 when he got his 6year molars. He was late to get his first teeth as it was. He got his first tooth at 14 months. The dentist told me that the later they get their teeth the later they get their molars. I knew they got 6 year molars and 12 year molars. The dentist looked in his mouth in September and said that his 12 year molars are not on their way in yet.

Alyssa has no sight of her 6 year molars yet and I don't see them coming anytime soon.

Also..Tylor never showed any sign of getting his 6 year molars at all. He delt with his teeth as an infant really well also though so I don't know if that reflects the way his teeth are coming in or not.

Yikes! I didn't realize they get molars at six and twelve years. Great! Christopher was a horrible teether and has never dealt very well with pain. I am not looking forward to this again!

Rebekah had a panoramic x-ray done at the dentist a couple weeks ago and it showed that her 6-year molars have broken through the jawbone, so now we just have to wait for them to come in. We could see the roots on all her baby teeth, and all of her permanant teeth below them.

The only other teeth behind the 6-year molars are the wisdom teeth. 2-year molars are permanant teeth, too.
