Well, I totally jinxed myself... :shuffle:
Jackson came into bed with me last night, and had an accident. Not just a little one, but one of epic proportions - I have never seen so much pee! He was soaked from his armpits to his knees, my mattress was soaked, my sheets, my duvet. Not what I wanted to deal with at 4am...and of course I had washed our mattress pad yesterday and it was still wet when I went to bed, so I just put sheets on without it. Of course!
So...my mattress smells like pee...what do I do?
(fortunately it is on Scott's side, but still :giggle: )

Yikes! I'm not totally sure, but if it were me, I'd probably use Lysol disinfectant spray on the mattress and let it air dry. My mom used Lysol on just about everything when we were growing up and it certainly seemed to do the job. I know for pets they recommend Nature's Miracle - does that do the job for human urine as well, or is it just for pets? :dunno: If all else fails, can you flip the mattress and put the pee side down?
GOod luck!

Oh ick! I would probably try steam cleaning it; do you have a carpet steamer thingie with the hand held part on it? If not, maybe the Nature's Miracle stuff (I think it's just enzymes that break down any urine, right?) or vinegar and baking soda.
Good luck!

I hate to tell ya, I tried baking soda, vinegar, nature's miracle, etc., and wound up just tossing the damn thing. :shuffle: I hope you find a better solution!

I spray it with disinfectant and water and let it air dry. That seems to get rid of the smell.

Was it just one accident, Stef? I wouldn't think one accident would render it stankalicious :dunno:
Here are some articles on how to do it:

Thanks guys!
I bought some Febreeze Anti-Microbial, and that seems to have done the trick for now...
