A spin-off of Erica's thread -

If you were to move, again to something in the same general price range, what are the thing about your current house that you'd like to keep?

The back yard - about half of it is level and the rear lot is sloped, but we have a good sized yard and lot of trees (and flower beds from the previous owners)

That the road ends in a cul de sac so there isn't too much traffic

Proximity to downtown - should we choose to go downtown, or to a museum, etc, we can be there in about 15 minutes.

2 car garage

That we have a master bathroom, and big closets in the master bedroom.

That I can see into the family room from the kitchen, for keeping an eye / ear on Anya.

The age, craftsmanship and woodwork. It just can't be replicated in any newer home and we're in love with it.

The city we live in. Its an urban suburb, so we can walk to most places if we desire and are minutes from downtown Milwaukee.

Our small yard. I love not having to dedicate weekends to yardwork. I also think small yards draw people out, making neighbors mingle more, since you're not necessarily holed up in your backyard.

Karri - I'd love to see pictures - have you posted any? I love woodwork in old homes.

Karri - beautiful. Is that a built-in china cabinet? And are those leaded windows?

The fenced in yard- LOVE it!
The quiet cul-de-sac. We're not right at the end, but almost and our neighborhood is extremely quiet, it is mostly retirees and a few young families.
The room above the garage right off the master bedroom. It is huge and holds all of Reed's music stuff (two keyboards, guitars, amps) and his uniforms.

And this is a plus why? Just trying to understand :)

1. Our lot. We are at the end of the cul-de-sac with no other houses and a pond across the road. (Maybe just a little more side yard)

2. The laundry room on the second floor. I love not having to haul laundry up and down.

3. My huge pantry

4. The storage nook in the garage.

5. The living room/family room concept letting me have the living room for an office/scrap room

Just guessing here, but I would say it has to do with the natural lighting in the house

I would keep the size of our backyard and the driving distance to everything.

Well, since we have to sell the Las Vegas house for the divorce, here is what I miss from it that I want in the future:

* fireplace
* walk-in closet off master bath
* jacuzzi tub in master bath
* 2nd floor laundry
* open floor plan downstairs

The wood floors. Our beautiful front porch. That's about it! I like our house but it's very....charming (meaning small!). It was built in 1929 and has that old house charm to it. We have a decent yard. We just need bigger everything!

Our backyard
Good spacing between our house and next door neighbours (what I hate about the new developments is that the houses are way too close together).
double garage
family room/kitchen is one big room
my walk in closet

- all one level
- privacy :) I don't necessarily need acreage again, but I like the quiet and not being able to see the neighbors out of my window
- close to town. We're minutes from downtown...about 3.5 miles. :)
- hardwood floors (we added with the remodel)
- big, soaking tub in the master bath
- farmhouse sink in the kitchen (we added with the remodel)
- separate office space for Paul
- master suite set-up
- skylights in our bedroom
- mostly enough closet/storage space
- separate laundry room and pantry (added with the remodel)
- fireplace (has a wood stove insert, so we can't see the fire....which would be the one thing I'd change)

-The location- we're in the middle of everything- restaurants, shops, grocery, schools, etc. It's the number one reason we're not moving.
- The size of the bedrooms- especially the master bedroom
- The woods- we're surrounded by 30+ foot trees
- 2nd floor laundry is definitely convenient (that was one of my considerations for buying a place).

The location, 2 blocks to the water :)
All living space on one level w/ laundry on that same level
Big master bedroom w/ attached bathroom

That's about it :)

- attached garage - I love it when it's raining, or at night when I realize that I need something from the van. Not that it's that big of a deal to walk outside, but it's nice having the van "in" the house.

- the size of our master bedroom

- Maia's walk-in closet - I don't expect that in the kids' rooms, but it's nice having it for her.

- our back yard - Our yard is the right size for us. It's not too big for Brad to manage, but it's big enough for the kids to have room to run and play. We also have a nice sized deck back there that I like.

It's strange. I like our house, but I can't think of specific things to name. I think I'm growing to like our house a lot more the more we make cosmetic changes to make it more our style. So that's not something that's necessarily a characteristic of this house.

I love:
our attached garage.
the 3-season room we had built last year
the huge fenced backyard that faces east so we can enjoy it in the evenings without the sun glaring down on us
being far enough away from the airport that you can't hear the planes (after growing up 10 minutes from a major airport, this is a huge plus)
having a full finished basement
a soaker tub in the master bathroom
the hardwood floors on the entire first floor
