If you could move to a new house, one that is realistic for you, your family, and price range, what would you have different than your current house. Or in other words what drives you batty about your house now that you wish you could change?

What drives me batty? It's too small and has a craptastic kitchen
If I could move? Hrm. I don't need too much more space. But I would like a tad more. And a nice kitchen. And I want a house w/ the rooms more broken up (ie: right now, or sunroom flows into the LR, which flows into the DR = always a mess in every room  )

I never thought this would bother me, but I would LOVE to have a washing machine on the first floor. Anywhere but the basement. I loathe dragging everything up and down two flights of stairs.
I also wish we had a 4th bedroom. We don't have a room to spare with both kids in their own rooms. We're thinking of closing off the study/office and have a pullout bed in there, so realistically it could be a spare room. It's just MIL that comes over anyway, but it annoys me that we don't have a room to spare.

Things i wish we had-
5 bedrooms (hello surprise 4th child! )
Linen closet (hate hate hate not having one here!)
Granite countertops
Garden tub (I so miss the one we had in our old house :( )
Hardwood floors (again, miss the ones in our old house)
gulp!

I wish I had something bigger than my galley kitchen
I wish we had less than 4 floors
I wish we had a 4th bedroom/playroom.
I wish we had a yard, not a garden patio.

I'd love a bathroom attached to the master bedroom. One with a big garden tub.
Other than that, I'm happy with our current house. The one we're moving to doesn't have a bath tub, so I may miss that. And I'm bummed that there's only one bathroom on the main floor, so guests will be using the same bathroom we do.

A minimum of 4 bedrooms but my preference is 5
2 living area's
A WAY Bigger kitchen than my current shoebox
An internal laundry
An ensuite to the main bedroom
I would also love a teenagers retreat out the back

Space wise our house is just right and I really like the layout. I would love if it was in a full cul-de-sac, had a porch in the front & a cover patio in the back (we're trying to work on that one).
Oh yeah, I want wooden floors in most of the rooms :aok:

To not have a stairwell right at the front door!
A garden tub
A double sink in the 2nd bathroom
To have garage open into the laundry room instead of the living room
A paved driveway :complain:
But those are changes to our current house, who knows how long we'll actually be here

1. Bigger bedrooms for the kids, or a 5th bedroom (as Mandi said, hello surprise 4th child)
2. a MUCH bigger yard with a fence
3. an office that is closed off instead of the living room that is open to the front door.
4. jetted tub
5. basement

I wouldn't make many changes to our house -
- a 4th bedroom....with enough extra space for it. :heee:
- 2 extra half-baths (sink & toilet). One in our house and one in Paul's office. We have 2 full baths right now, and I hate having guests use Alex's bathroom just to pee. I'd rather have that bathroom be the backup.
- I'd love for our street to be a short dead-end. There's not a lot of traffic on it, but the speed limit is 35 and just past our house, it's just straight road for a while. Cars speed up to about 50 when they get to our driveway. :( Of course, there's a 10mph 90-degree turn down a ways, but it doesn't help as much as I'd like. OTOH, I do like being able to use our street to go either direction to save time. :heee: I'd be willing to sacrifice the extra 5 minutes once in a while to get people to slow down in front of our house, though.
- More of an awning/covered area over our back patio. In the summer, this spot is a heat lamp. :( We've already been talking about different ways to accomplish this.
I think that's about it! :aok:

1. No wallpaper
2. No pink countertop in the 1/2 bath. :dead:
3. Redo the floors in the kitchen, eating area next to the kitchen, and entryway.
4. New cabinets in the kitchen. The fronts fall off of the drawers in our kitchen all the time because they weren't put on properly before apparently.
All stuff I can definitely live with and can eventually replace.

Ok - all these lists made me think of more
- a larger bedroom w/ its own bath. it would be nice if chris wasn't required to climb over me to get out of bed.
- a laundry room on the main floor
- a bathroom that isnt used by us or the kids
I just realized that I described my last house  Too bad it was where it was (BFE).

-better layout
-larger kitchen
-larger master bathroom with a bigger tub (I miss our big tub from our condo :( )
- either a 4th bedroom or basement in which a guest bedroom could be added
-basement for a playroom
- more storage space. I other words: a basement.
-same amount of garden in the back but less in the front. Ours is on a slope and basically unuseable and a pain to maintain.
As you can tell, I want a basement.

Only a few things...
~something other than white cabinets, white countertops and white backsplash in our kitchen. It looks so sterile and we can/will eventually change them but a kitchen reno could cost a small fortune to get what we want.
~finished basement. I love our basement but again, we'll have to spend money to finish it the way we want it.
~concrete or stamped patio under the deck.
Those are the few minor things I'd love to have in our home. We fell in love with our house 3 years ago and still love almost everything about it to this day. It's the perfect size and layout for us.

~ a basement with a den, toy room, work out roo etc
~ a 4th and 5th bedroom (glad I am not in a situation where I could have a surprise 4th  )
~ COLOR in my kitchen aside from the walls
~ NO white cabinets anywhere
~ central vac
As it is I am selling my current house and when I do buy another, I will keep these things in mind as well as the stuff I currently love about my house. (well I say that but I am willing to compromise on a lot right now just to have a place to live, but the next 1500+ sq ft house I buy will have LOTS of extras.)

Can I add another?
NO WHITE FLOORING

~ bigger yard with trees
~ main floor laundry
~ 4 bedrooms
~ garden tub
~ just a bit more space all around
Oh... and dual flush toilets like Deb. :)

Thanks everybody! There is a slim possiblity that we could be moving and I'm trying to compile a list of things I'd want in a different house.
This is what bugs me about my house.
- I want bedrooms away from the main living area to cut down on noise
- 2 car garage
- A yard that is well established
- A master bath
- No white kitchen floors and counter tops

Deb has a thread today about kids using the half flush option. :)
There are toilets where you can flush using the ful 6L, or just using 3L depending on... well... the contents of the bowl. A test by the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation showed that they save about 26% of the water of a normal 6L toilet.

I just saw that. Seriously...and the US thinks they're all that and a bag of chips? Sometimes I am ashamed of our country the way they don't try to get on the train and end needless waste of things like water, energy, pollution, etc :disbelief

NO WHITE FLOORING
No kidding!! I have them in the bathrooms & the kitchen, they show every little speck of dirt :gah:
I will love to have a basement but they're VERY rare in TX... I have wonder about that many times, after all we're part of tornado alley

I'd want to change:
Garage on the main level (currently garage is on basement level)
Heated basement (when we finish the basement, we'll have to put in electric baseboard heat or something)
Laundry on the floor w/ the bedrooms would be a plus.
These are of course all things that I knew about when we bought the house, but the pros outweighed the cons.

A bigger kitchen, a master bath (one main bath is just not working), bigger bedroom for Eoin, an attached 3 car garage.

1. Three car garage instead of two
2. granite in my kitchen
3. Higher ceilings in the basement
4. Laundry room upstairs instead of off the kitchen
5. As much as I love the two story, open living room, foyer etc. I am tired of being able to hear someone brushing their teeth in the master bathroom when I am downstairs on the other side of the house.

WAY closer to civilization
An office/craft room
laundry room closer to bedrooms
bigger closets in the kids' rooms
pam
March 9th, 2007, 12:15 PM
No steps leading from the car to the house (well, a small one would be okay)
A 2-car garage
Kitchen ~ more & better storage areas. A bit larger in general.
Something darker than light cream carpet but still in that color range
A dedicated craft room/office for moi
A laundry room rather than laundry closet
A back yard
The more I think about it, if you add everything up, the place I want doesn't exist here for the amount of money we would want to spend. It's fun to think about, though :)

A bigger master bathroom and one that included a tub
A bigger master bedroom
Closet organizers (I miss the ones that we put in at our old house :( )
An office
A bigger family room
A shed in our backyard for toy storage
a straight driveway

I really love our house but if I could make a few amendments:
-I'd add a few more bedrooms. At least 2, preferably 3. That would make it a 7 bedroom! Yeah, I'm with Mandi on the surprise 4th kid...and why does that happen soon after moving into a new place? :complain:
-One story layout (virtually impossible to find a 6+bedroom single story!)
-Something closer to my friends so we could hang out more often...too many kids to lug across town.
-Hardwood floors
-I'd also locate the bedrooms far away from each other so I wouldn't have to worry about anyone waking up the napping kid/baby. Whew, that pisses me off!

*Mudroom
*Laundry room near the bedrooms
*Fenced yard
*Walkout basement
*One extra room for whatever... crafts, playroom... in the basement would be ok.
