View Full Version : Anyone use...
~Andrea~ March 11th, 2004, 11:51 PM FlyLady to help keep their house clean and clutter-free? What can you tell me about it. What do you like, not like about it. Do you use a journal? Your own? Have you bought theirs? It seems good in theory, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has used it.
Cat March 12th, 2004, 05:32 AM I did use Fly lady, but I used to get harked off at all the e-mails I received!
~Andrea~ March 12th, 2004, 10:12 AM I have a seperate folder in my email that they go straight to. Right now I just delete them b/c I don't understand them all as I haven't actually started yet.
LeighAnn March 14th, 2004, 07:14 PM I got sick of all the emails too.
AahRee March 14th, 2004, 08:40 PM I was doing it, but I started getting the daily digest instead of the individual emails. And I'm not really doing it at all anymore. I really liked it when I had the energy to dedicate to it, because I need to be told *Do this now*, or I get overwhelmed by all the things that need to be done, and I do nothing. So, I thought it was helpful, and when I'm feeling better, I'll probably start trying to do it again. I didn't buy their journal, though. I made my own. She actually recommends that you make your own if you can, because that way it's specific to your needs. Plus, I think you learn a lot in the process of making it.
TtownAnne March 14th, 2004, 08:54 PM I just started this weekend! I've gotten lots of emails, but right now am starting the basic stuff. The only thing that bugs me is her cheerleader rah-rah you're so great perkiness. Give me a break. I want a clean house, not personal affirmations of my wealth!
Brooke March 14th, 2004, 09:09 PM I signed up but I found that I was getting upset and angry because I got all the emails at work and I couldn't go do things right then. So I switched to the digest and I still was getting upset and feeling behind so I unsubscribed.
Cazzle March 15th, 2004, 03:25 AM I subscribe. I keep building up the emails (like Andrea, I filter them in to their own folder), at the moment I have 227 unread  I read some, ignore others, and take parts of the FlyLady philosophy that work for me while ignoring the rest. One of the things I like to do is set a timer for 15 minutes and work really hard at one task for that time. When the buzzer rings, I set it for another 15, and do a different job. I do three different tasks, and then I set the timer for 15 minutes and I play online for that time. Then I start over. That's how I get the most housework done.
Carmen March 18th, 2004, 08:36 AM I tried flylady, but found an older system that works better for me. It's based on a book called Sidetracked Home Executives, which I bought on half.com. (I think it is actually the same people who do flylady, but I am not sure.)
Basically, you break down all of the housekeeping into individual tasks, then put each task on an index card. Some of the things get done daily, some get done weekly, and some get done monthly. I'm probably not explaining it well- all I know is that my house has been fairly clean since the summer when I started using it! Even if I miss a few days here and there, it is SO easy to get caught up.
Fly lady just annoyed me because she was saying the same things over and over again! (She does have really good ideas about getting rid of clutter, but we don't have that problem!)
~Andrea~ March 18th, 2004, 11:19 AM Carmen, I'll have to try the file card system. I'm sure I could buy the book on eBay.
Rav77 March 18th, 2004, 12:24 PM I get her e-mails which most of them I just delete because I do not like the Rah-Rah go do it now either. HELLO I am at work and I can't go do my laundry now (I sure wish that I could). I haven't found quite the right program to work for us yet but I keep looking and talking to everyone I can about how they get everything done.
Denise March 18th, 2004, 07:58 PM I was getting the emails too and then I unsubed...I do one thing though always...I always make sure the kitchen sink is cleared and cleaned and that my 1st floor is cleaned up before I go to bed...The bedroom is another story!
