Every year between 500-1,000 children (typically 9-16
years old) have been found dead or with severe brain damage as a direct
result of 'playing' the Choking game

Adolescents are attracted to this activity because it is easily
concealed and they believe it to be a safe, drug-free high. Thousands
of pre-teens and teenagers practice this on a daily basis, taking their
life in their own hands every time.

Wow, thanks for the link. I've never heard of this. I read Dylan Blake's story and I feel so awful for his mother. I'll be sure to pass that information on to Sarah when she's older.

There have also been alot of kids re-enacting Saddam Hussein's hanging. Just so sad :(

That's the kind of thing that just baffles my poor little brain, though. Seriously, are kids either (a) so uneducated that they don't know the outcome of a hanging or (b) so bored that they know the outcome but want to see what happens anyway? It wasn't THAT long ago that I was in the ages stated here, and these type of ideas never occurred to me even once. Am I naive, or has something really weird happened?

That's exactly what I said last time we discussed this. It would never have occurred to me to do something so stupid and if others were doing I most certainly would not have taken part :dunno:

I work with teenagers in a junior high and some had a problem months ago with compressed air (the one in cans used to clean computer's keyboards). They thought it was very 'funny' to stick it into their mouths and push the botton until they passed out. They thought it was 'just air' but when they read the label they found out there's everything in it except 'air' and there it said it could be fatal.... so also take a look on that

I would never have thought this either. I don't get it. I'm definitely talking to my kids about this stuff in time. We already tell Carter constantly about how tv is funny, but if you did these things in real life, than you would DIE!

OK, the Saddam thing - did these kids watch his hanging? Was it televised? If so, why are KIDS watching a hanging? I guess there was a 5 year old near here that just hung himself because of Saddam. WHAT? My kids have no freakin' idea about any of that and won't be watching the evening news any time soon.

I think most of the hanging incidents were in neighbouring countries so I assume it was big news over there.:dunno:

I guess I am the sole stupid one. :shuffle:

I know alot of people that played the fainting game in school including myself. But it was never choking the neck, I didn't realise kids did that. We would all just hold our breath and some one would put slight pressure on the persons chest and then they would faint.

Totally stupid, and makes no sense to my adult brain now, but back then it was something to do :dunno: Maybe we were bored. I was a pretty wild stupid teen and tried alot of stupid things. But I really can't tell you what my thought process was, it was just something everyone was doing :dunno: I am trying to remember how old I was and I am guessing around 13 or 14.

I will surely educate my children when they are older not to be so stupid, but I already planned on educating them so they don't do half the things that I did.

So sad so many kids have died from it, I can't imagine ever doing something like that alone and not being able to take the pressure off.

I remember that "game" Deb, but I was too chicken to do it.
