Tomorrow is Australia Day :party3: Good cause for a posting party, don't ya think?
Tonight we are watching the Australia Day Concert, tomorrow we are going to a friend's house for a pool party! It's stinking hot here, I have the a/c blasting at 9pm :dead: Tomorrow is expected to be even hotter
The Australian of the Year was announced tonight. His name is Professor Tim Flannery and he is a scientist committed to slowing the effects of global warming :aok:
Nichole (and anyone else who has seen An Inconvenient Truth) - is it too much to show a 7yr old? Emily's been asking questions about the whole global warming thing b/c of the Australian of the Year announcement, and my explanations aren't making much sense to her  I suggested we watch An Inconvenient Truth together, but I'm wondering if she's too young for it?

Happy Australia Day, Clare!
We aren't doing anything for it, we were invited to a picnic at Clontarf but I want to stay out of the heat. We plan on just taking the boys to the park for a little ride on their bikes etc then hanging at home.

Happy Australia day :toast:
I'm soooooo pissed off right now..my effing boss booked me in on the weekend AGAIN! :grr: I'm calling her at home and I'm going to try and be calm ( very hard right now) and tell her I won't be working this Sunday..Just because I'm available on the weekend does not mean she HAS to book me in:flippy: ..I know she doesn't do it for other people ( she books most every other weekend) but because Lisa is so nice and doesn't bitch about it we'll just use her :nono: i'm like the bottle of pop that you shake ..just ready to explode on you  I'm calling my super at home this morning..pray I don't get my ass fired 'cause I suck at controling my temper/tone when I'm pissed :crossfing:
What an effing way to start the day..
I need to calm down 'cause I'm going to give platelettes today and if my pressure is too high they won't let me do it..deep breaths in...

Happy Austrailia Day!
Well it is just now Thursday for us but we just got dumped about 3 inches of snow last night and it isn't over yet. I am in heaven..except for the fact that it is a high of 22 today and right now it say's the feels like temp is 13. See I love snow for the fun of being outside playing in it..how can you do that at these temps.
Anyway..while most schools are on a delay around here..we are not so off to school the kids go. I have bowling tonight and then tomorrow again with school.
This weekend we will be going to Calling hours for a dear friends Grandfather on Friday. Saturday morning now we will leave for Zanesville Ohio for my Grandfathers 80th birthday. He has Lukemia and has been doing great for a little over a year now. It is a great cause to celebrate. We will stay saturday night and come home Sunday.

Happy Australia Day. Last year playhouse Disney had a huge thing about it and it just doesn't seem like they are doing anything this year.
Today is a school day for Katie, so I'm going to do my normal gym time after I drop her off and then homework when I get home.

Well I'm a little calmer now..I talked to my mom and she went on about some family issues..so, now I'm not as pissed off about work, just about the other family issues which suck so bad :(

I am just waiting for Joshua to come home from the dentist. My MIL took him because she seem to think that because she used to work at the office and the dentist is her friend that she will be allowed to sit with Joshua while he gets his cavity fixed!
Also, I am waiting to hear if my dad has to have surgery to fix the artery that caused his stroke:pray:.
It is -20 celcius with the windchilll so I am staying indoors today. No way the kids are going to play outside after they just got over being sick with strep and a lung infection!

I haven't seen it, but I did recently read some discussion about letting kids watch it on another board. Basically the people who had seen it said that it depends on the maturity and also the personality of the child. I think that some children could become quite stressed out and worried about it. Maybe you could watch it first and then see what parts, if any, you think she might benefit from. :dunno:
Here's a link to a site that has many more links. :) Near the bottom there are some links to websites for kids that talk about global warming.

I played hookie from work today, I don't feel too good & decided that I needed a day with my hubby to help me feel better :aok: Blair is off today so we're gonna go look at some cars (it seems like my van will be totalled :( ) & grab some lunch before having to pick up the boys from school. We haven't spent this much time alone (just the 2 of us) in a long time

Thanks Lisa. Our dentist won't let anyone sit in the room while the kids are getting stuff done. I am allowed to sit in there during the checkup appt though. They seem to think that it causes MORE stress on the child if a parent is sitting there.
Well that backfired . Joshua would not settle down and the dentist couldn't do the work. He is being sent to a child specialist dentist next friday for consult. No clue what he is going to do that my dentist can't do. The thing is the estimate is at least $450:eek:. We don't have any extra insurance for dental or medical...thanks to Jay's cheap boss refusing to look into a health package for her staff. Our regular dentist is a family friend so we get 50% off.

How cool about Tim Flannery! :aok: He's got a book that is supposed to be a really great discussion of global warming/climate change.
As for Emily watching AIT, it's hard to say. I agree with Sarah about you watching it first to see what you think. It can be rather scary, and it may also be a little on the "slow" side for a younger kid. I think it's really great that you're thinking of watching it with her, though.
Here's the website affiliated with the movie; you may find some helpful things.

Australia Day used to be called Foundation Day and is a celebration of the foundation of the colony in 1788.
About Australia Day
Australia Day, 26 January, is a national day of celebrations where the people of Australia come together to celebrate what's great about Australia and being Australian.
Australia Day is a time to reflect upon what we have achieved and what we can be proud of in our great nation - our people, our fragile yet enduring land, our rich Indigenous culture, our great diversity, and our celebrated freedom and democracy. These characteristics have contributed to Australia 's unique identity and culture, and have made it the great nation that we celebrate today.
Australia Day is celebrated across the country and is observed as a public holiday in all states and territories. It involves formal ceremonies including flag raisings, citizenship ceremonies and the presentation of community awards, and a variety of local events and activities ranging from damper making to thong throwing competitions to community barbeques.
