View Full Version : Shakes, shudders, or temors?
EricaW January 22nd, 2007, 02:09 PM For the past week or so we've notice Dylan kind of shaking, shuddering, or a little temor as he is falling asleep as we are feeding him. It's not so severe like a siezure but still concerning.
I have a call into his doctor but she won't be in until tomorrow. The nurse I talked to said that she has seen babies do that before but we will probably want to rule out that it isn't a siezure.
Has anyone else's baby done this?
I'm not even about to start looking on the internet until we see his doctor and she can tell us something. There are just too many scary things out there on the internet.
He seems fine with everything else. He's eating, sleeping, peeing, and pooping as normal.
sheila January 22nd, 2007, 02:12 PM Do you mean like he is falling/catching himself from falling? Or is it more than that?
EricaW January 22nd, 2007, 02:14 PM No, it's almost like his head is vibrating. The best way I can describe it is if you think of how a Parkinson's paitient's hands will shake, it is kind of like that.
Shanna January 22nd, 2007, 02:18 PM Addyson used to do that when she was really young, but it was her way of showing she was mad. Does Dylan seem conscious of it when it happens?

Nope, it doesn't seem to bother him at all. He's usually just about asleep when it happens.

Ahh, okay. Well, that is the only experience I have, so no advice, just :hug99: I'm sure things are fine, but I'm glad you're having him checked out :)
Jen January 22nd, 2007, 02:52 PM Kallan does that with his leg sometime. It's a fast quiver/shaking and lasts a few seconds.
At least it doesn't seem to bother him, so that's good.
I hope you are able to see the doc soon and it's nothing. I know it's hard not to worry until you find out if everything is all right.
Brooke January 22nd, 2007, 04:00 PM We have a patient where I work who has had "intention tremors" since she was born. (I work for an occupational therapist) Hers are in her upper body. The doctors have ruled out everything neurological and now think it's low muscle tone. She gets them when she tried to drink from a cup or stack blocks or that sort of thing.
She comes here for muscle strengthening and she's the cutest little doll!
I'm just telling you that as an example of tremors that aren't seizures.
I hope Dylan's doctor has some answers for you.
Bev January 22nd, 2007, 04:27 PM Graham did that the odd time, Erica. He's perfectly fine. :)
Jillian January 22nd, 2007, 04:51 PM Our ped told us at 3 months that trembling/shaking was only a problem if it continued past 4 months old...Caid's *mostly* went away, so we ignored it...it turns out his normal shaking actually were seizures, but we had no idea untill he started having more severe ones as well.... But, obviously our ped had seen this many times and was confident enough to tell us it was just his developing nerve system and not to worry about it, so I think the possibility of it being seizures is pretty rare.
EricaW January 25th, 2007, 03:21 PM I just wanted to update. I talked with Dylan's doctor and she said what I'm describing sounds somewhat normal. The shakes he's having have to do with him falling asleep and while they are actully the beginnings of seizures most kids grow out of it. She gave me some things to watch for and if I see then she will want to see him. She also said that her son did it also. So for now we are just going to keep an eye on him and keep our fingers crossed that it doesn't get worse and we don't see the things that the doctor told us to look for.
Shanna January 25th, 2007, 03:22 PM Good news, Erica!
Nichole January 25th, 2007, 03:26 PM I hope it goes away soon, Erica. :hug99:
rebbyd February 21st, 2007, 07:53 PM Hi Erica! I just started noticeing my 5 1/2 month old daughter getting almost like the chills for a second or two when I take the bottle out of her mouth or when she is done eating. I'm starting to get worried that it is something neurological and of course looking on the internet is not helping!! How did things turn out for your baby?
Kristen February 21st, 2007, 08:36 PM Can you get it on tape so the ped can see it actually happening?
Jillian February 21st, 2007, 09:12 PM Can you get it on tape so the ped can see it actually happening?
This is a wonderful suggestion, Kincaid's ped nuerologist suggests everyone do this.
Brandi February 21st, 2007, 09:41 PM I think taping them is the best idea. How's he doing?
EricaW February 21st, 2007, 10:00 PM He seems to have stopped. :dunno: He had been doing it daily for about 2 weeks but we haven't seen it in awhile. His doctor didn't think it was seizures, so that is good news. She said it is probably just part of falling asleep.
Bev February 22nd, 2007, 11:46 AM Remember when baby was tiny and had a startle reflex when they were sleeping. I think my Doc said it was related to that.
