So Moriah is approaching 6 months - the time pedis suggest introducing solids.
She is my first who is solely on BM- either nursing or EBM in a bottle. Now I started researching and found out there are people who BF their babies until age 1 and onwards and whose babies' diets consists almost only of BM. That solids is only in addition to a BM meal and not instead of it.

Any input is welcome :) Thanks.

From what I remember, the first tastes of solids should come about 30 min. or so after baby nurses, that way, she won't fill up on the solids. BM or formula should still account for most of their calories at a year. I remember feeling kind of confused by the whole thing with Anna, and then again with Jacob, but if you take it slowly and follow her lead, you'll be fine. :)

Even with DD being on formula.. I was told that the amount of formula she should have shouldn't be affected when she went on solids. So, I don't think formula, EBM or BM should be knocked out of a meal to put solids. We always fed DD a bottle every 4 to 6 hrs and every 2 to 3, we'd give her a solid. Ofcourse that was AFTER she had been on solids for awhile. When we first started she got a solid after her morning bottle and before her afternoon bottle and a solid after her evening bottle and her night time bottle.

Janelle didn't really start eating solids till 11 months, and that was really only once a week and a teeny tiny bit.

For Caid he ate solids early, and we never really replaced nursing, we just fed him breakfast/lunch/dinner and still bf'd on demand.

Thanks for the input. :) I will see how it goes. My DCP will do as I ask her to do.

For Anastasia, we make sure she BF's first (or has a bottle first, if at daycare) and then she eats later. I try to give her the solids about an hour after the milk. And when she first started solids, we started with an ounce or two of solids at a time.

We practiced what Sarah posted....about 30 minutes after nursing/EBM, they'd get solids. That way, they'd also not be angry (from hunger) when you're feeding them the solids.
Yes, some people say that you can wait a year. But you also don't want your child to have sensory issues because they didn't have any solids (including snacky, self-feeding foods) till age 1. And that can happen :heee:

It has varied per child for me. Each one was 'ready' at a a different time. Morgan started at 4 1/2 months and readily took to it. Raelyn didn't start eating solids readily until 7 or 8 months. Jack is 4 1/2 months and is no where near ready. Not to mention, neither am I. :)

Or it could go the other way as well...my kid who ate solids early has a lot of sensory issues, especially regarding food, the kid who got solids late is a great eater!

WOW- interesting.
With Yumi, I started fruits at 3 months (that was what I was told to do then) and veggies a bit later. With Shoham ... I have a blank. I don't remember when she started what. (Lacking sleep, my brain is not progressing LOL)
I'll try this new approach with Moriah.

Good job making it to almost 6 months! I only did 6m exclusive BF with Kalyssa. The others probably had some solids around 5 months or so.
