Mia has had a snotty nose, no fever and has recently (as of maybe Monday night/yesterday??? - sorry... brain is fuzzy because of the sickies in our house over the weekend!!! :tease: ) developed a cough. It wasn't that bad this morning before I took her to day care. Just a little hacky/mucusy cough that normally comes with a cold but now tonight as I put her down for the night, she has been coughing a lot more. As soon as you lay her down she starts to cough but if we are holding her somewhat upright, she seems OK. It's also a little more "barking" like now tonight but I don't know if that's from the more consistant coughing or because it's turning into something more serious. Any suggestions??? I've given her some tylenol, put a little of the vicks baby rub on her chest (for her congestion) and we have a cool mist vaporizer in her room.

You can try to elevate her mattress a bit; that helps with the drainage somewhat. And try the saline nose spray to help loosen things up, too. If it gets really barky, I had pretty good success with a steamy bathroom. (a lot of people say to go outside in the cold, but I never needed to try it)
I hope she feels better soon. :hug99: It's the worst when they feel so bad and you're kind of helpless to make it go away. :(

Oh yeah... we have her propped up too... Thanks for reminding me Nichole!!! If the vaporizer doesn't work, we'll have to start up the shower.
It does suck!!!!!!!! Poor little thing!!!!!!!!! Thanks again! :hug99:

We just went through this with Emma... Although it was only one night and a nap in the carseat so I am not 100% sure it was croup even though the doctor said... She told us if it gets real bad, 10 minutes in the steamy bathroom and then wrapped up to go outside in the cold air (or I have also heard infront of an open freezer) ... she also mentioned to prop up with 3 pillows at night (we did not do this because she would not allow it) and to sleep with her... and of course, if it gets too bad, go to the ER.

Poor Mia  I hope she gets better, Jo! Steamy shower should soften that throat of hers...just run a hot shower, get the room nice and warm and maybe sit in the bathroom and read books or play with her. You can do this several times a day.
Try putting a pillow in her crib. We put one in N's crib when he had a little cold a couple months ago just to elevate his head a little....and he's been sleeping with the pillow every since! he loves it!
Another thing you can do...hmmm...not sure actually since she is little and can't have whole milk yet..i was going to suggest some pretty warm milk with a bit of butter in it, it really does a good job of soothing a sore throat. Not sure if you can do that with formula? (she is on formula, right?)
I hope she feels better...!

:hug99: Poor Mia.
If it is a croup and you feel it gets bad don't hesitate going to the ER! They need to check if she gets enough oxygen in her blood.
Other than that what the others said. With Shoham it helped when we let her sleep in the carriage/stroller that was a bit elavated. She slept in it many nights, poor thing.

Cold air always worked better for my kids, than did steam.

Thanks girls!!!! :hug99: Jeremy rocked her to sleep and then she ended up sleeping all night. She had a little cough this morning but nothing like last night. Hopefully she's on the down side of this whole thing now.
