View Full Version : Help me name my baby boy!!!
Meganb December 30th, 2006, 12:30 PM My husband and I can't agree at all on a name for our new little boy. We are due March 12 so we don't have a lot of time left. We have a 4 year old little girl named Eden Blair and we like names that are different and not terribly common. We have a list of a few names that we both like but aren't in love with. Our last name starts with C and is 2 syllables and German so it doesn't need to be a long complicated name.
We both like Grant / Reid for a possible middle name.
Lane is the name of one grandfathers that has already had his name passed on to his other grandson. My father is Richard Lee and I am not crazy about passing this on. My husband is Marty Duane and we are NOT using that :) lol . His mother had 3 boys with M names and middle names that sound alike. So I would like to avoid being to matchy with our kids names. Sorry I am rambling on so but I need help :)
We have 2 family names that are something we would consider using and they are Britton and Foster. Some of the other names we have discussed are
Baylor
Nolan
Newton
Maddox
Tate
Camden
Caden
Girlo December 30th, 2006, 12:47 PM Hmmm.....I like Grant or Reid for a first name!
Of the list you posted, my fav would probably be Nolan.
Alyssa December 30th, 2006, 01:27 PM I love Tate and Nolan. And like Shannon, I think both Grant or Reid are great first names too. (But also nice middle names!!)
Kaybee711 December 30th, 2006, 02:17 PM I like Nolan and Tate too. Ok Tate is my favorite. I don't like Grant but that is from personal experience with another Grant so you can't take my opinion on that one.
Bev December 30th, 2006, 03:03 PM Hmmm.....I like Grant or Reid for a first name!
Of the list you posted, my fav would probably be Nolan.
I totally agree!
Blaine? Is that too close to Blair for your liking? You could *sort of* honour the one grandfather Lane that way, even though the other grandson has Lane.
I think Britton or Foster are better middle names for Grant and Reid. ;) Although I have read that naming after products is becoming popular, I would avoid Foster Grant.
Mandi December 30th, 2006, 04:03 PM I like Nolan, Tate and Maddox best of your list. I really like both Reid and Grant too.
Kristen December 30th, 2006, 04:04 PM Tate is my fav of the list. I would worry that Maddox is going to become popular with the whole Angelina Jolie thing.
Meganb December 30th, 2006, 09:55 PM Thanks so much for the suggestiongs keep them coming. I will keep you posted on our new ideas and thoughts.
Meganb December 31st, 2006, 12:56 PM ok since everyone seems to like Nolan how about
Nolan Tate
Nolan Reid
Nolan Grant
I also like the suggestion of Blaine but sadly my cousin named his son that :) so it is taken. That has been part of our problem is our family seems to have taken a lot of the nice names :)
BonnieG December 31st, 2006, 01:15 PM Blaine? Is that too close to Blair for your liking? You could *sort of* honour the one grandfather Lane that way, even though the other grandson has Lane.
Sorry, but the first thing I thought of when you said Blaine was from the 80's movie Pretty in Pink...when Ducky says "His name is Blaine? That's not a name, that's a major appliance!"
I personally like Nolan the best.
Bev December 31st, 2006, 01:43 PM Blaine is a major appliance? I don't remember the movie that well!
Those are all good choices, Megan. I think Nolan Grant is the front-runner for me. :) If we had gone with Nolan instead of Graham, it would have been Nolan Alexander.
Lyoshka December 31st, 2006, 02:13 PM I really like Maddox Grant.
Michal December 31st, 2006, 02:20 PM I like Nolan Grant the best from your list. I don't like Tate for a boy's name at all, it doesn't even sound like a boys name to me.
Brooke December 31st, 2006, 04:04 PM I like Britton Grant!
Camden Foster would be my second choice.
Hannabanana December 31st, 2006, 05:11 PM Blaine is a major appliance? I don't remember the movie that well!

Sort of along the same lines but I like Alexander Grant ... sounds presidential
Cami December 31st, 2006, 05:22 PM I like Nolan too and all the middle names. But if I had to pick, I'd say Nolan Grant.
Kristen December 31st, 2006, 05:47 PM Do you see your cousins alot? If they life halfway across the country and you only exhange christmas cards, then I wouldn't care if they already used a name I liked.
Girlo December 31st, 2006, 06:03 PM I like Noan with all those middle names. :)
Mary DK December 31st, 2006, 06:46 PM I'll throw my two cents in and say that I like Tate Reid :)
Meganb December 31st, 2006, 10:00 PM You guys are helping us sooooooo much!!!! We were feeling quite hopeless and getting kinda down about not coming up with a name we loved as much as Eden's but you guys are giving me such hope :) thanks guys!!!!
Alyssa December 31st, 2006, 11:25 PM Nolan Tate :aok:
(My best friend in grad school was named Matthew Tate, and I have a great fondness for him and thus the name. :) )
Bonnie January 1st, 2007, 01:28 AM I like Nolan Reid. I also like either Reid or Grant for a first name, esp. Grant.
Meganb January 1st, 2007, 10:18 AM If we were to use Reid, Grant or Tate as a first name give me some middle name ideas :) we are stuck in such a rut. I am loving all your advice and suggestions. Oh and we love the name Alexander as well but my husbands brother named his little boy Alexander Lane :)
Bev January 1st, 2007, 12:25 PM I really like Grant but DH put the kibosh because it is his cousin/Aunt's last name and didn't want them to think he was naming a baby after them. I thought it would be nice since his Aunt will never have grandchildren.
Grant Reid
Grant Alexander (middle names don't matter if it's taken, does it?)
Grant William
Grant Your maiden name
Grant Daniel
Are you looking for a more trendy (for lack of a better word) or classic name?
Karri January 1st, 2007, 02:49 PM I like Nolan Tate. Or Tate
I don't like Reid as a first name. Sorry.
With a lot of those names you listed, I can't picture them as grownup men doing the power handshake, 30 years down the road, KWIM?
MrsPeacefrog January 1st, 2007, 04:41 PM I like Tate too, I also like Grant
And don't feel bad, when we had our third we were driving to the hospital still not convinced on the name!
Meganb January 1st, 2007, 06:26 PM I agree Karri that is one reason we aren't passing on my husbands name because it isn't very formal. It sounds like a nickname.
We aren't into really classic names persay but we like to step outside the box a little but not to much ... if that makes sense? Naming a baby wasn't this hard last time :)
Karri January 1st, 2007, 07:53 PM Yep, I KWYM. Girl names are much easier
Meganb January 1st, 2007, 09:59 PM I agree :)
MrsPeacefrog January 2nd, 2007, 05:03 AM *sigh* how I would love to test that theory out.
Meganb January 2nd, 2007, 11:35 AM I was at Target the other day and a man with 4 boys came up to me and said will you please trade me one of my boys for your little girl :) and I said while laughing no deal I have a boy on the way.. :) Little girls are great but man are they little drama queens!!!!!
Bev January 2nd, 2007, 12:00 PM Yep, I KWYM. Girl names are much easier
I thought boy names were easier. Good thing, I guess.
Trynitey January 2nd, 2007, 09:18 PM I really like Maddox! I also think it goes very well with your daughter's name as well.
I like Maddox Reid
