View Full Version : Carpet Help?
Lette March 9th, 2004, 10:41 AM Anyone have any reccomendations on what kind of carpet we should get?
We need to carpet our condo down the shore before Easter and we're not sure what to go with. ie.. Nylon or Polyester or something else. Color is some sort of green. I'll post a current picture below.
It's going to be the same carpet in the living/dining and 2 bedrooms, so high traffic.
It will probably get dirty with 2 kids coming in after the beach and pool.
We have floor to ceiling sliding glass doors, so it's going to get a lot of sunlight.
We're overlooking the ocean, so salt air / humidity is high.
Lette March 9th, 2004, 10:44 AM Don't mind the mess as we just converted into a 2 bedroom and things are all out of place. We need major clean UP!

Nocona March 9th, 2004, 01:04 PM We bought the Stainmaster stuff with the top of the line padding that has Odor Eater in it. Spills come right up and we've had it a year and you'd think it was just installed.
Karri March 9th, 2004, 01:51 PM I dont know much about carpet, but I would reccommend a berber with a pattern in it and some specks of color. They have excellent ones that hold up under high traffic and they are all stainmaster.
Tracy March 12th, 2004, 07:46 PM I have a berber in a high traffic area..anyway I wish I didn't..one of the loops got pulled up, I didn't see it and the vaccum caught it..Unravelled enough to really notice too :( so make sure if you go with a berber you go with a tough one :)
Cortney March 13th, 2004, 10:05 PM I asked Josh and he said.....get tile! Just kidding!
He said in general that nylon is ALWAYS your best bet in general (a little pricey, but the best). The only downfall to nylon is it DOES bleach out from the sun (polyester rarely does).
So...a nylon. :)
Brooke March 14th, 2004, 05:25 PM I like Mohawk-brand carpet.
Cortney March 14th, 2004, 09:33 PM Ok, after talking to Josh and he thought about it some more he said that your best bet will be to get a nylon-olefin blend. (which just about any brand makes)
KatieK March 15th, 2004, 11:59 AM With a beach condo and 2 kids, I'd avoid carpet entirely. I'd do tile or pergo. Easier to clean. :)

I would have to disagree. Sand on a hardwood, pergo, or tile floor can feel like you're walking on rocks and it's so hard to get up. Our dogs are always dragging sand into our house and it's so hard to get off the hardwood. At least the carpet can hide that and you can vacuum.
