Back in June we moved into our house, and discovered that there was a lovely yellow rosebush out front. Unfortunately, as the season changed, time got away from me and I didn't trim the bush back as I should have. How will this affect roses blooming this year? Is it too late to cut it back now? Any other suggestions?

Does it have lots of fresh new growth or is it just getting new buds? If it is just starting to get buds you could still trim it as long as you do it ASAP. When you trim it you want to trim about 1/2" above a growth bud and cut the stem at an angle, not strait. When you done you will want to use a rose bush fertilizer on it too.

Oh and the stems should be 6-8" from the root ball or the ground. You might want to watch when it blooms to find out what kind of rose bush it is. If its a tea rose it will bloom with a single flower per stem. If its not a tea rose it will get clusters of blooms. If its not a tea rose you may want to trim it less the next year, like 12" from the ground.

This is a great web site for roses too

If its an older rose bush triming 1/2 the total length of the bush will do. I was asuming it was a newer bush.
