View Full Version : Sounds when baby sleeps?
marcy November 20th, 2006, 08:24 AM What sounds if any are or were in the room when your baby sleeps?
Crib soother
CD, on repeat? What CD?
Radio?
White noise? What sound?
Is it on only when the baby first goes to sleep, or all nap long / all night long?
marcy November 20th, 2006, 08:28 AM The past few nights we've used a clock with white noise when Anya sleeps. It seems to get her back to sleep much easier. It's been the sound of waves. It stays on all night.
Her crib soother music is played right when I lay her down, that goes on for 3 to 5 minutes. It's a Fisher Price that plays a version of the alphabet song.
Lynn November 20th, 2006, 08:47 AM I no longer have a baby, but Aaron has had a fan since day one. It started out as a small desktop fan and now it's a huge box fan. He told me once (when the power was out) that he just couldn't sleep without it.
We also used to play a classical music CD for him when he was an infant. We stopped that about a year ago when he was taking longer and longer to get to sleep.
Darcy November 20th, 2006, 08:55 AM We don't have anything. We do have an air purifier in his room (Riley had it in hers until Jeremy was born), and it turns on when it needs to clean the air. We tried a noise machine with Jeremy when he had colic, but that didn't work. He's a light sleeper, which I hate, so we scraped all the noise.

During Lauren's day naps - there is music. I have Solitudes relaxation CD's playing, and she also has her Fisher Price aquarium that she beats on to see the lights come on (I dont have it set for the fishies to move around, because it's too noisy and sucks the life out of the batteries). The music is set to repeat play the entire time she is napping.
At night, we have nothing. Just her nightlight.
AmyP November 20th, 2006, 10:34 AM Sarah sleeps with a fan on in her room (turned away from the crib unless it's hot in her room). It stays on all night and all through her naps. We've been using at least some white noise to get her to sleep since she was a newborn. It seems to work really well. She has slept at my mother's for naps and overnight without it. But we use it for consistency and because it helps drown out other noise in the house. We still have to be relatively quiet if we're near her room and she's sleeping, but not nearly as much as if she were used to sleeping in silence.
Kristen November 20th, 2006, 11:09 AM Camille has a music cd of hymns in lullaby form. We've played it for her since she was a baby.
Mary DK November 20th, 2006, 11:17 AM Eliot liked music, we had a special lullaby CD that we would put in for both nap & bedtime and we could pretty much plan for him to be asleep at the 2 or 3 song. He stop using it before he turned 3.
Ian doesn't have anything else that the everyday noise around the house... TV on, Eliot talking/playing, etc... we have a ceiling fan in his room that we use in the summer but he doesn't seem to miss it when we don't use it or miss any of the other noises either.
Cami November 20th, 2006, 06:59 PM We didn't have anything. For a while, the kids slept in rooms connected by a jack and jill bath and I kept the bathroom fan on to cut down on noise between the rooms.
Sandy November 21st, 2006, 05:18 PM We use white noise.
Rayna had a humidifier in her room that we would turn on every night and/or nap time. It was part of our little routine that she knew/knows means time to sleep! We still use the thing, just never put water in it. The fan is super loud and the perfect sleep aid.
We wanted to get another one like Rayna has for Harper, but couldn't find it anywhere. So, we got a white noise machine and play it on the rain setting.
Both of these things are blasting the entire time the kids are asleep.
Jen November 21st, 2006, 06:21 PM Nothing for the little baby.
Keira has a white noise/wave machine and it's always on. She wakes up too easily without it.
Kalyssa likes to sleep with soothing music (celtic women or classical music) on repeat.
