View Full Version : Don't Want To Eat Healthy
Carla March 6th, 2004, 12:30 PM This is driving me crazy, but I have no desire to eat healthy things. I make an effort since I want to be an example of good eating to my son, but I would be content just eating foods that are just so so. If I didn't make an effort, I probably would just eat carby things (like toast, sandwiches, sweets) and not bother at all with veggies and fruit. I have strawberries and granny smith apples in the fridge, some of my favorites, and I could care less if I had any! I think some has to do with texture. A lot of vegetables make me gag when I eat them, even some of my favorites, like broccoli and cauliflower. Then the cost. The stuff I probably would eat is often too expensive and if I got it, I probably wouldn't want to eat it
Am I the only one? Does anyone have any suggestions to make eating them easier?
I should go choke down an apple, I guess :supergrin .
tinycandi March 6th, 2004, 01:04 PM I haven't been eating very healthy either. I've been wanting so much junk food. For example, right now I'm eating doritos and for lunch I had macaroni and cheese.
One thing in my favor though...I'm craving fruit. I've been eating grapefruit like crazy.
No suggestions though...sorry!
Brandi March 8th, 2004, 03:12 PM I'm ALWAYS like this! With Carter, I gagged down healthy foods. But then I know people who only lived on pop tarts their entire pregnancy and their babies turned out fine. I really try sometimes, but I know I eat way too much junk. I have been so craving potato chips - I WILL NOT BUY THEM! Last night, we went to a friend's house for dinner - they had chips! AGH! I couldn't stop eating them - they were soooooo good!
I stay away from pop for the most part and try to avoid all caffeine (although I get a little chocolate every once in a while).
Carla March 10th, 2004, 03:21 PM With Ethan I lived on pizza pockets the last couple of months :rotflmao: and he's ok. I just feel guilty and want to try to keep my weight in check. I was away for a couple of nights and almost everything I ate was unhealthy. When I decided to have a soup and salad once, I felt sick. Go figure
SarahK March 10th, 2004, 09:24 PM I lived on toast and cereal during my pregnancy.
One thing that I found made it easier to eat apples was to dip them in caramel. Not sure how healthy it is, but at least it made me eat apples.
KatieK March 19th, 2004, 01:34 PM I think some has to do with texture.
Have you tried preparing your fruits and veggies differently? For example, maybe the texture of a raw apple is gross to you, but applesauce or a baked apple would be good. Or try veggies that you normally eat raw cooked or visa versa?
Carla March 21st, 2004, 07:03 AM I have and sometimes it doesn't work. Like I was eating an orange yesterday and I was enjoying it, then half way through, I had to give it to DH because how it felt in my mouth nearly made me throw up. I wasn't even thinking about eating it, it was just like a switch in my head. At least I ate half. Sometimes I can eat them in soups and sometimes I really enjoy salads, but sometimes I just can't. When I was pregnant the first time, I couldn't eat lettuce at all. This time it's broccoli and cauliflower which bother me the most (I could eat these by the head before  ). I'll just keep eating what I can, I guess
Girlo April 30th, 2004, 03:10 AM While I was pg, I craved fried chicken and potato chips. Not exactly health food. I also developed a taste for sausage and my food swimming in any sort of sauce. I did choke down fruit and veggies from time to time....only because I knew I should.
I'm sure as long as you're taking your vitamin every day and getting some nutrition through any number of sources - juices, etc. - you'll probably be fine. :)
Mary DK April 30th, 2004, 03:34 PM Carla, you're certainly not alone... I have been eating some many sweets b/c I'm craving them like crazy!!
I can eat an apple but veggies I have to pretty much force myself to eat them :tongue2:
