View Full Version : Do you "fix" things in other people's houses?

I have a friend who drives me nuts doing this. She rearranges things in my house to suit her. The most recent was on Sunday at Sam's birthday party. The boys had been watching tv in our bedroom while we waited for the guests. I noticed that they had messed up the bed so I just threw the covers back up, but didn't tuck it in perfectly. She put her baby's portacot in our bedroom and was in and out of there and I noticed when I went to bed that the bed had been remade! And made differently to the way I do it. I couldn't believe it!
What do you think? Is this overstepping a boundary or wouldn't you think twice of straightening up someone else's house?

It depends, my sister has a habit of 'fixing' things at my house, but I don't mind it because I usually am happy with the end result. If someone where to rearrange something in a way I didn't like then I might be annoyed.

 Clare.....I think that's kinda funny. And I also think your friend's a little freaky......
It wouldn't really bother me unless they start rearranging photos on the mantle......moving fragile family heirlooms.....etc. You know, personal stuff. :)

I personally wouldn't do that, and would hate it if someone did that at my house, especially my bed. Well of course unless they were there to specifically help me out with house cleaning because I had just had a baby or surgery or something along those lines.
BUT then again in saying that I have stayed at friends houses and gotten up before them to wash the dishes and straighted up as a thank you for letting me stay there :dunno:
Oh and I will always change toilet roll to the over position (which I already revealed in another thread :giggle: )

I think that's a little nuts. I wouldn't make someone's bed unless I'd been an overnight guest.
I'd let her off the hook if she might have thought her child messed up the bed. Or if she had written in that other thread that she can't keep herself from remaking beds when she visits other people's homes.

I think she has OCD. :)

 She's a bit nuts. No, I wouldn't do that unless I had stayed overnight, but I would have beaten you to maken the bed anyway in the first place.

I barely fix things in my own house. So I don't do it in other people's.
Like others have mentioned, if I am at a close friend's house, I will help out by putting dishes away or something if it seems normal.

I am more apt to do that in a friends house then my own  I don't know that I would do it to the extent that your friend did but If my children make a mess, I clean it up. If I spend the night I straighten things in the morning (TO help out more then anything) If I babysit I am always cleaning  However...my house...well that is a different story

The only thing I do is change the toilet paper, or if I notice a picture that is conspicuously crooked I will straighten that. And then the obvious exception of being at a close friend's house and helping put away dishes or refold a towel or something.

I don't do the toilet paper thing, although it drives me nuts if it's wrong.
Anything else I wouldn't do unless it was a very close friend.
