We are in the process of doing up our lounge room.
We have a new leather lounge, and just put in custom made coffee tables, we will also be getting a new entertainment unit which will be the same colour (Jarrah timber) as the coffee tables. The walls are going to be painted. I am thinking a cafe latte colour but I am not 100% sure that's the way we will go yet. But we are definately changing the wall colour.
The rug we have had for years that went extremely well with our old furniture no longer looks like it belongs.
Here it is now:

What colours would you chose for the rug. Do we go with a rug that has the colours of the couch or do we go for a rug that has more of the browns and creams of the other furniture?
With the tones of the lounge:

Or more towards the colour of the wood furniture?

It doesn't necessarily have to be the design I have put up, just more of the colours I am thinking of right now.

I like the colors of this one:

In a pattern like this:

I think you need something that incorporates the reddish color of the leather and the beiges that you'll put on the walls.

i think this one would go the best b/c of what cami said: the colors of the furniture and the walls

I don't know I like all of them  But I'll say either the circles or rectangles one.

I'm always a fan of circular shapes (dunno why) but I agree with Cami and Karri on pulling the wall and leather colors together. I like both of the ones they showed.
What I'd suggest is that you start by eliminating one or two that you like "least" of the ones shown and go from there.
Your room looks great!!

I like these two the best. If you plan to keep the carpet longer than the furniture or move it to another room (the addition) eventually, you might want to stick to the more neutral one, though I do think the squares is quite neutral despite the burgundy in it.

I just have slight fear with having a beige, white, cream etc colour then the kids will destroy it, but I guess that is nothing that a good carpet cleaner can't fix.
Tony is liking the more brownie colours, but I feel considering their is so much wood look with the blinds, floor, coffee tables and soon to be entertainment unit, plus behind where I was standing for that picture is the dining room table and another wall unit, it just too much brown. Even though brown is in.
That lounge was given to us by my parents so I didn't have a choice with the colour, if I had my choice I would have gotten a chocolate colour leather or a beige leather. But I am not going to be fussy with colour considering it was for free
But as I said I didn't necessarily want these exact rugs, I was more looking at the colours in them and what I should incorporate into it.
I am also feeling (even though I just stated my fear of beige or white) that we do need to do something lighter on the floor or else the room will end up too dark.
I really love the modern crips clean look. But due to the style of the lounge it has changed my whole concept and I have to work around it.
Help

I like these two too. But if I may make a suggestion, you need one size bigger rug than the one you currently have. That one is small and looks lost amongst your new sofa.

If I can totally got OT here, can I suggest a larger picture on that wall where Aiden is hanging? Or a photo montage?

THis one: http://i2.ebayimg.com/02/i/08/de/d3/fa_1_b.JPG
And then you can do accents in the room with all kinds of neat ideas: curtains, paintings, rod iron decorative stuff/candle holders, shelves for pictures, picture frames to go with the coffee tables or the couch....

I am in total agreement with the others. I like the burgundy geometric patterned one.
Creme....yeah.....that can be a problem. I have a very light tan in the living room. Mine has the proper pantina look now
