I've been eyeing featherbeds for awhile now and I have some questions.

Do you have a featerbed?
Do you have it on your bed for warmth or for comfort?
Do you have a special cover for it?
What kind is it (goosedown or synthetic)?

Well, we had a featherbed on our Queen bed but never bought another one when we got a King.

We just put it under the sheet with no cover, but that was BC (Before Children). Now I would, fo sho.

It was for comfort and it was goose down. I lubbed it.

Hubby got me one when I was pregnant, it was heaven. Got it for comfort. We put it under the fitted sheet but it didn't have a special cover.

When my cat got sick she peed on it and the smell wouldn't come out after dry cleaning it twice so it's in a landfill somewhere.

Yes, that's what we did. We had the featherbed under the sheets, then a blanket and down comforter.

I know that some people use a cover and put it on top but my husband didn't want to do that. The sheet flattens it more than it would be on top but we got "tall" sheets and it wasn't too bad. :)

If it's under the fitted sheet, it doesn't slip or move around. Plus it served as protection in case the feathers were poking out.

They have mattress pads now that have built in simulated featherbeds. They're not real, but sure as heck feel like it, KWIM? That's what we have on our bed...on top of our pillow top mattress. I love it...feels like we're sleeping on a cloud. And I like that its just a mattress pad b/c its washable and hypo-allergenic and hold up better than down. And yup....sheets over it.

Next question: Are your featherbeds baffled (box squares) or sewn in long tubes? (Does that make sense?)

Ours was sewn in long skinny tubes. I'm not sure what else is out there, though!

Baffled is better. The down won't shift all over the place. It'll stay within the box. I don't own one but a lot of people buy them at BB&B and love them.

I think the term for the tubes is gusseted? :scratchch:

Interesting about the mattress pad ones, Karri. I'm actually thinking about getting a featherbed for our pullout sofa. It's still brand new (slept on once) but those things are seldom comfortable that I think this would help substantially.
