Deb...I am going to agree with you. I have a few things to say on this subject.

First off, the negative box reads "this post isn't all that". It doesn't say 'this person sucks' :lol: IMO....if it wasn't intended to be used, it wouldn't be there. Life isn't all about warm fuzzies. HOWEVER....how I read it, when I think a post 'isn't all that', its when I disagree with what the post says.

I have to say that after some thinking, I agree with your earlier post, Karri. It is just a game. And I think it's ok if every once in a while we disagree with someone's post. If someone wants to say "ok, that post bothered me a little" I don't think it should be taken as an across the board "you suck" statement.

Now, if the post that is disagreed with doesn't make sense as one that could be disagreed with, then that's kind of passive aggressive because it could be construed as a general "you suck" thing. And sneaky snarky comments along with a negative speak for themselves as PA if they're unsigned.

No, I don't think so. I don't think it's a game in that sense, where you get points because someone is losing points. I think it's more intended as a way to agree or disagree with specific posts and a person racks up a reputation history based on overall agreement amongst the community.

I also think that there is another way you can look at things which might actually help you around these boards. Alot of us have been together for a long time, going back 5,6,7 years. We have alot of experience with these boards and are very open with each other. Some talk about everything in their lives and others are more private but still give some information so we know the essence of who they are ie; how many children, what age, husband/boyfriend/divorced and so on. It makes everyone feel more comfortable knowing who they are speaking to.

We have all also experienced alot of trolls on these boards. If you are not familiar with the term troll, it is a person who basically comes to a board to cause trouble by saying mean things, or faking who they are and life situations they are in just for fun. It is absolutely 100% your perogative if you do not want to give us any information about yourself, but what goes along with that decision is the fact that alot of people won't really know where you are coming from. When you make a statement, it has alot more meaning when you know where that statement is coming from. Does that make sense? So maybe if you keep in mind that we don't really know who you are and therefore you will be misunderstood at times due to that, then maybe you won't misunderstand us.
