OK, so Bridget's thread got me thinking: have you ever had to return something to the grocery store? I had to for the first time last week. I bought a carton of juice, and when I opened it, it tasted all fermented. The next day there was so much buildup of something inside that the carton looked like it was ready to explode! So I took it back to the store, but part of me was afraid they wouldn't refund me the money. They did.
So what's your story?

Yes, I did. I bought mayo that was expired and still on the shelf, milk that went sour the day after I bought it.

The only thing I can remember is returning milk that I had just bought but expired the next day. I am pretty anal now about checking dates

I've returned many things to the grocery store, last thing was salmon roll that tasted like it was washed in bleach :dead: ya, it cost $10 you can bet I was taking it back. I also returned a package of frozen fruit dip that was the wrong flavour.Oh and I bought a case of store brand pop and had a sip of one can and HATED it so I returned it and got my money back.

The only thing that comes to mind is milk that was chunky (without opening it...i could see it :dead: ) and grapes that were 80% moldy (they were shrink-wrapped, so i couldnt examine them...they got an earful from me about doing that to their food :heee: )

I returned mouldy cheese once. And yesterday when I was shopping a woman picked up a block of mouldy cheese. I always check the cheese now.
And one time my bill was a lot more then normal but I put it down to buying nappies and wipes. When I got home I checked the receipt and they'd chargee me $56 for a bag of onions :faint: You can bet I took those back!!

$56 for onions! Woa!
I've returned formula, I had Katie use it one day and she threw up the rest of the day, so I returned it and they gave me back my money. I didn't return it, but I did have a price adjustment on an item. It was meat and it had gone on sale, since it was a good cut it was normally expensive and the sale was terrific. Unfortunately, the sale wasn't in the system yet.
Because I was running many errands that day and couldn't actually bring the meat with me, I took a picture of the meat on my camera, brought the camera and the receipt with me and showed the cashier. I got my price adjustment and a good laugh with the store employees.

I returned some organic peanut butter to Costco. It said right on the label that no stirring was required...and from the outside, it didn't look like there was any oil on the top. When I opened the jar, there was actually about a 1/2" of oil on top!! I tried stirring it in (thinking it wasn't as much as it looked from my angle), and it started coming out of the top and I wasn't getting anywhere, because the actual pb was so hard because there wasn't any oil in it!! YUCK!!
So.....I returned it. :heee:

I returned beer once. Stagg bought it and a couple of the bottles in the middle (12 pack) had broken. The woman wasn't surprised at all.
What does it say about me that you're all returning milk & formula and I'm returning beer. :shuffle:

What it says is that I have a kegerator and don't need to buy beer in wimpy cans/bottles.

:giggle: I had to take our keg out of the fridge a couple weeks ago. It was old. Stagg needs to brew some new beer. But the upside was that I had to clean out the fridge really well because it was nasty and now it is all shiny and clean and begging for new beer. (actually, it was begging. I appeased it)

We had our groceries delivered this week and the celery they sent was almost white. :dead: I gave it back to the delivery man and I'll be fighting for my 30p credit!
At our Kroger in KY, I didn't return anything but I almost always found something scanned wrong. They had a policy where you got the item free if it rang up wrong. I'd get free diapers, free razors, lots of free food. I guess they figure people don't check very often. :dunno:

We have price integrety at alot of stores here too but the rule is if it scans at the wrong price you get $10 off the price, if it's less than 10 then it's free but only the first item.
I remember bringing back a package of raspberries we had bought the previous day, they looked fine when we bought them but overnight they all turned moldy and mushy :dead:

I always check the cheese and bread products and such for mold or expiry dates. I did return milk several times to one store before finally deciding I would walk across the huge parking lot to another store to buy a different brand of milk. The one brand would be well before the expiry date but still taste sour. It was a much cheaper store though, so I did all my groceries there and then went to the other one for milk.
I have returned bakery garlic bread that had no garlic on it.

I have returned a fruit tray that I bought at Cosco... in 1 day it fermented terribly - and I had it sitting in my fridge the entire time too.
Other things I have returned: bread, milk, cheese, meat (smelled funky), yogurt, bologna, eggs, chocolate (it was supposed to be milk chocolate, but was covered in a white coating when I opened up the package).
I also will call the 800 numbers on name brand items and let the companies/corporations know of the trouble I had with their product - and always end up getting enough coupons to cover three times what I originally spent on the item in question. Pepsi Co, Schneiders, Huggies and Nestle offer up the best coupons when you file a complaint about their products.
I have no qualms about returning things I have purchased... the way I see it, I work hard for my money - and with the way things are SO expensive nowadays, every nickel counts in my wallet.
