What do you kids do during recess/outdoor play time? When I was in grade school, we played foursquare, kick ball, hopscotch, and we climbed on a jungle gym. I'm just curious how much of that has stuck around for 30 years.
Addison and the other girls in her class play hopscotch, tag, and a game called "What's the time, Mr. Wolf?" Hmm, and I just asked her what else they do at recess and she said they also play "Prison" ~ where a boy chases them and ties them to a truck with a jump rope. :woa:

Ties them to a truck with a jump rode? That sounds too funny.
That game sounds sort of familiar to a game I played where the boys chased the girls, and then brought them into a drawn circle aka prison. We could escape when another girl managed to touch us.

Oh...I didn't answer your question. :giggle:
Natascha played soccer, and what is that game called where the ball is attached with a rope to a pole?. Otherwise it was simply playing on the swings, monkey bars, hop scotch or in the sand box. They weren't allowed to run around except when playing soccer or basketball.

Tylor plays Soccer, Basketball, Football, Tether ball, and Foursquare. Sometimes they get a kick ball game going also!

huh? :wtf:
Oh Silke...that's teatherball (the pole ball).
Aidan plays hopscotch, kickball, on the monkey bars, and tag. Or, this is what he tells me he plays.
I see that they have 4-square on the playground, so I am assuming the older kids play it. I have fond memories of that!

We used to play "what time is it, mr fox?"
Kincaid's class just plays on equipment (slides/swings/etc) or in the sandbox...but they are younger, aged 18 months to 2 1/2 basically.

Ahhhh.....recess. :) Fond memories......
- foursquare
- handball
- tag
- flipping off backwards from the monkey bars (we'd have contests to see who could do it from the highest bar!)
- the kissing game  We did this in the 3rd grade - the boys would chase the girls and if they caught them, they'd have to kiss them. And the boys played willingly!
- making each other sick on the tire swing (going around in circles)
- in the 4th grade, a few of us would hide in the bathroom after lunch (long recess) and play house. We'd each have our own stall (house) and we'd bring dolls/stuff from home to make it up. We finally got busted and had to quit.
- jumprope
- hopscotch
There's more I'm sure. I often wonder what sort of stuff Alex will like to do at recess..... :)

OK, since my kids are too young for recess, I'll just say what I played. I remember playing Red Rover. "Red Rover, Red Rover let Darcy come over." You'd get such massive arm burns from kids trying to run through your arms holding onto the person next to you.
We played a lot of kickball and soccer until one kid got stitches when he dove and caught his head on the corner of the fence. :errrr:
Oh and in third grade, I was the quarterback for the football team. I ended up having an allergic reaction to some medicine for strep throat, and the boys in the class sent me get well cards saying they wanted me to come back and play football. I was such the jock.

Wow. I have no idea what they do. But they do have recess each day.
We played tons of kickball and four-square. Happy memories. :)

Poor Tylor doesn't do anything now..well won't be able to but I talked to his teacher and she is going to allow a few friends to stay in with him and play cards if they want. Hopefully a few will do that with him. If not she said she would put him to work
