I have noticed recently that there is a funky musty smell in the interior of my washing machine. I'm not sure why, because there is no standing water in there, I do not let things soak in there, etc. Any ideas what this could be? And how do I get rid of it?

Um, get a new washer?
Maybe there's a puddle under the washer? Maybe try some kind of bleach soak (fill all the way, add bleach, let sit overnight) to see if it kills whatever is hiding in the dark recesses? :dunno:

I was going to suggest a bleach cycle. Is it a front loading washer?

Nope, top loader.

Okay-- never mind then :) I was just going to see if you were wiping down the rubber that keeps the door closed tight periodically!

I am having the same exact problem, Anne! I'm going to try the bleach thing if I ever get enough of a break between wash cycles!

Do you have one of those fabric softner thingeys in the middle of it? I do, but I never use it. Mine smelled when we inherited the machine from the former owner of our last house and I found that I could take it apart. EWWWWWWW....there was lots of nastiness in there. Like shit could have been growing :dead:
Otherwise I have no sgueestions.

Mine has a smell too. :dunno: It's 5 years old and we're the only owners. I have been planning on trying to run a bleach cycle or even baking soda.
