My doctor gave me a prescription for Clomid. We have been TTC since June 2004 after my eptopic and removal of my right tube with no success. I was just wondering if any of you ladies have tried Clomid and how was it? Successful? Side effects?? I have read all I can...now I want personal testimony. Thanks!!

Melissa, I used it for two cycles. I was on 50mg CD5-9 (some people go CD3-7). I did get some good follies on u/s for the first cycle. I had an IUI with a less than stellar sample and did not get pregnant. My OB said due to the poor quality of the sample and my FSH issues that he would not do IUI again and set me up for IVF appts.
I used it the next cycle and did not get pregnant. For the third cycle, I did not use it as I was figuring there was no point and lo and behold, 9 months later along came Graham.
I had absolutely no side effects whatsoever; but having said that, I seldom get side effects from any medications.
I was also using OPKs and I did use a saliva monitor as well.

I used Clomid for both babies. I got pregnant on clomid cycle #2 (after an HSG) with Alex and on clomid cycle #6 with William. I was a bit crabby on it for all 8 cycles and I had ovulation pain each cycle.
I used temping/charting and OPK's to tell when I was ovulating. :)
With Alex we had sex prior to ovulation and with William, we had sex immediately after ovulation. So...if you want to try for a particular sex....do it before ovulation for a girl and after if you want a boy. :)
Good luck!!!

I was on clomid when I got pregnant with Norah and Elliott. It's been a long 3 years  , but I don't remember there being too horrific side effects. I may have been a bit more irritable and had some hot flashes, but nothing I couldn't deal with.
I was on it for 3 cycles, 50MG, and got PG my 3rd cycle. I was using a fertility monitor in conjunction with it, as well as continuing to temp/chart.
We were on the every-other-day for better quailty sperm schedule. And the put a pillow under me, inverted hips, the whole shebang. The 3rd month (8th month TTC), I was ready to say screw it and had too much wine at a wedding and that was our lucky night
So...if you want to try for a particular sex....do it before ovulation for a girl and after if you want a boy. :) I don't believe the Shettles Method. We had sex 4 days prior to ovulation and I had me a boy with my first pregnancy :)

I don't believe the Shettles Method. We had sex 4 days prior to ovulation and I had me a boy with my first pregnancy :)
Of course, it doesn't work everytime. :) But research shows that boy sperm travels faster but die more quickly and the reverse is true for girl sperm. This is believed to be true because the male dna weighs slightly less than the female dna. So...the closer you have sex to ovulation the more likely the boy sperms will reach the egg first and have the better chance to impregnate the egg.
Here are a few articles on the subject.

Thanks ladies!!! I appreciate all the info...
I think we will just plan to have sex every other day around ovulation time just for good measure. These past 28 months of TTC have been very rough and emotional. I just want to be pregnant again. With me turning 35 next year it really scares me....
Hopefully I will be back soon announcing my :bfp:

I am just going into my 2nd clomid cycle. I was terrified to take it last month and it actually wasn't bad at all. I didn't have any of the mood swings people warned me about...just mild headaches while I was taking the pills...good luck and don't worry too much about it. just see what happens

Now for a follow up question. Last month on my first cycle of clomid (I took 100 mg) I produce 6-7 follicles! So many that my dr suggested we didn't try IUI that cycle but wait it out. Next cycle..which should be starting any day, he wants to put me on a half dose. I'm so frustrated that I OVERPRODUCED and had to sit out the month after all the work. Now I have to start all over and I'm thinking that I might try to go it naturally....since the problem has mostly been with husbands count.
Any similar experiences?!? or thoughts? I'd never heard of this and didn't know ti was a possibility.

If your DH has sperm/count issues, there are things he can do/medications he can take to improve the SA results. If male factor is your only barrier, that would be something to look into. Good luck!

Try zinc and folic acid for your DH Cloe.
Melissa, all I can say is it's about time and I hope it works for you super fast! :)

Melissa, I have taken clomid more times than I can count now. I would seriously have to look back at my calendars to count the number of times we have tried it. Anyway... I took 50 mg when I got pregnant with Ali - first month - such an easy time! We have now been ttc (both with and without meds) for 3 1/2 years. I have tried clomid from 50mg to 250mg and not had any luck. I can tell you that the side effects worsen with the dosage going up. I had hot flashes, incredible moodiness, a bit of weight gain with the higher dosages and night sweats. I always took mine on CD 5-9 and went in for my first u/s on CD12. My first doctor was awesome about monitoring my follicles and then we would do the hcg shot to trigger. We did the every other day sex routine starting on CD12 after my u/s up to CD18. My doctor always did a progesterone test on CD21 also. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to pm me. I feel like I could write a book on clomid. I hope that you get the bfp you are looking for!

I took clomid for both Aiden and Riley. With Aiden we started with 50mg from CD2-6, I then had a blood draw at 21 days to test my progesterone levels to see if I ovulated and I didn't, I had to wait 50 days for AF to arrive. Then the next month I took 100mg, I charted and got a spike on CD18, at my CD21 blood draw my progesterone was 21 which was a successful ovulation. At 10dpo I tested postive with Aiden.
With Riley I took 50mg and just charted I didn't do a blood test at CD21 mainly because I didn't think I was going to ovulate. But I had a spike at CD19 and lo and behold 10days later I tested positive with Riley!
Clomid has been very successful for me. The side effects were nothing in comparison to the success that it gave me. I do remember having hot flashes regularly, and I had a few headaches in the beginning of the cycle. I can't remember my moods being much different to what they were during a regular PMS situation  But we are going back 5 years now.
Good luck :hug99:

I haven't been on it, but my mom was with my older brother. I'd have to ask for specifics, but she told me she was really moody and nasty. My brother was conceived the second clomid cycle. She actually had a prescription for the third month that she never filled. She actually found it recently. The rest of us were conceived without meds.

That is exactly how I feel...all the mood swings, hot flashes and whatever negative side effects I may get will have no comparison to how I will feel when I finally see :bfp:
Thank you all for sharing your stories. You have no idea the comfort it brings me. Please continue to share.
:hug99: Thank you..you guys are the best!!!
